Is it possible to check who owns/created a gmail account?

My son received an inappropriate email from a gmail account. Without going the local PD route first is it possible to find out who owns/created it?

File a lawsuit against John Doe.

Get the court to issue a subpoena to Google.

Google might not have the real name but they will have the ISP.

Subpoena the ISP.

Amend the complaint in your lawsuit to include the gmail person's real name and address.

Serve the complaint on them.

^^^Computer geek/hacker friend would be able to find asshole but would be using questionable to illegal means. Also there’s nothing more dangerous than an ex-friend.

He’s in 6th grade so hopefully his current/former friends are not that good but you never know with kids these days.

It was a message calling him a nazi( family has german name), saying him and his baby brother deserve to die and should kill themselves. Giant swastika in background.

It was supposedly sent on a school issues chrome book. We are meeting with the principal tommorow. Just want to know my options if they refuse to help.

The principal can get some other kids to rat out the bad boy.

Local school boards hate this kind of bad publicity...include the school, et al., in a 'complaint' as enablers of a child committing a crime, etc. Could be fun, won't last long though...and the PTA if they still have such things might be helpful!Black Helicopter

School called said they do not have access to the information and are locked out from viewing it on their system. Requesting that I bring in his school issued chrome book so they can see it.

Of course we have it saved on our end, just in case their is another “ accidental “ loss/lockout.

Have you googled the email and see what comes up?

Take it to a lawyer first. (Imagine this in caps with exclamation points because it can not be stressed enough.)
