Self-Defense Against a Knife: Tips & Tactics From an Expert
I've been in a few situations that involved knives. One time, it was I who brought the knife to a gunfight. I got inside the guy's reach and had the Buck 110 blade stuck against his gut before he decided I wasn't interesting to him. That was in Paris, in the flea market and he had a gold-plated .25 auto. He was also a big African in robes and all. I never did forgive my buddy for beating feet and leaving me there by myself. It was just a crazy n1gger who wanted to try and scare a couple white guys. He scared one and pissed off the other one. That .25 is probably still at the bottom of the Seine.

The problem with most knife attacks in reality is that you don’t see the knife until it is too late. Generally speaking, if the bad guy flashes the knife at distance, it is with the intent to scare you into doing what he wants; handing over your money or whatever. In such instances, it is unlikely that you will be stabbed as long as you act correctly. Be that defensively or not, depending on the situation.
If the bad guys main intent is stabbing you for whatever reason, then they will usually conceal the knife, for example by holding their hand down by their side and slightly to the rear so you can’t see what they are holding, and appear to not be a threat until they are so close that it is too late...

A guy threatened to shoot me with a
pistol that was laying beside his hand... He was to close to make threats...a LB 7 came into play before he could make his move and he changed his mind... If you are going to shoot, shoot, don’t talk...I’m just glad no blood had to be spilled... |

The 21 foot rule. If a knife fighter gets within that distance unless your a fast draw expert who practices you may have problems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js0haocH4-o&t=130s

Years back when I got the Az. ccw class the Tueller drill was part of the class. The 21 foot distance attack scene. Most can't draw and fire a pistol when attacked from 21 feet.

Still gonna get stabbed! Instructor was floored, that an old fart could do that, asked how come I could. Told him the 55 plus years of practice with a 1911 might be the key. Regards, |

Heck I still rather fight someone with a knife than a gun, as long as I can see it ahead of time. Just like with guns, you need to get in real close to the attacker, take control of that arm and keep it out, use your weight and get him down, some of us have an advantage on that respect. Then kill him.
