I reload a lot of calibers from .223\5.56 to .50BMG, but no 6.5 Creedmoor. A coworker called me this morning with a problem he is having getting started with the 6.5 Creedmoor caliber.
He is using a Hornady single station press with RCBS dies. After loading 20 rounds, he finds that the new ammo won't fit his bolt gun that fired the factory ammo to start with. He doesn't have a case gauge, so I recommended that he get one to check his brass after it is resized to eliminate this problem in the future. He is getting his dies to cam over on the resizing stroke, so that shouldn't be the problem, but he is not checking the brass after it comes out of the resizing die whether it fits the rifle chamber or not. My thoughts are that his crimp dies are set too low when pressing in the projectile causing a ring around the cartridge girth stopping it from going into the chamber. His OAL is correct for that caliber. What are ya'll's thoughts here? Update: He sent pictures of the cartridges & the ring is @ the base of the shoulder measuring 0.006 larger than the spec on the cartridge. Being that large, there is no way the cartridge will go into the chamber. Time for him to break down the cartridges & resize them again. I told him to back off on the crimping die a 1/4 turn from where he set it to stop this & use the case gauge to set his dies from now on. Gotta learn somehow. Just talked to a young feller and his wife from Sweden that bought a house in town here to live part time. Great conversation over some brews about politics and guns.
He owns 3 6.5s and they love them in Sweden for hunting. Then the politics started. Holy sheeet I was going to sign him up for the he would fit right in.

I have 2 AR's in 6.5 Grendel, but nothing in 6.5 Creedmoor. At the time that I was buying all the rifles, the 6.5 Creedmoor requires an AR-10 receiver & I had already gone thru building two AR-10's in .308 & wanted no more of that pain.
Anyway, as 4th IDvet says, 100 yards is all the open space we got here in Florida to shoot in or we get lost in the woods. If its open land to shoot over, the Remington 7mm Magnum will fill that bill & dislocate my shoulder! ;-) |

I am looking to replace the scope that came with my rifle. I have been looking at Vortex scopes also. Just have to save the money, or sell something so I can get one.
