Weed explosion
I went from having nothing but dirt on my property on Sunday, to having weeds 6-8 inches tall this morning.
Dangdest thing. It's crazy what a little bit of rain will do. Time to fire up the DR Trimmer - it's not as dusty as a mower for me.

Yesterday I finished my first mowing of 20+ acres. Takes a few days.
Yep, Spring brings a virtual weed explosion here also. Now I have three days of thunder showers forecast. Yay (sarc.) more weeds to mow. |

I spent a small fortune on the frigging lawn here in the swamp and it is 50% weeds. My neighbor has a weed lawn. She has hers cut short and it looks like a putting green at he Augusta National golf course.
So much for my grass my weeds are going to get trimmed low. Plus weeds are insect resistant. Long live weeds.

I always wondered what this weed was called. Common Mallow or cheese weed

We use Preen in the different gardens to stop the seeds from germinating. The weeds that grow from rhizomes we manually pull or mow.
Dollar weed is our biggest problem here.

The small stuff, when the lawn is wet, I pull out, roots and all. You just have to get hold of the root itself or you just break it off. |

Didn't know you could eat the leaves, though. Long, long roots - that's for sure. |

No name calling.
Weeds are my money and I welcome the season with open arms and bored fingers. This month and next month are critical to my survival. Dry days beat wet days. Hoping for more dry days than wet days. A mixture is good, more money on the dry. |

I take care of a house that has a stone and gravel yard, after giving up weeding and spraying, I've gone to using a 3 Gal. propane torch burning all the weeds. I'm getting to old for all that yard work any more.

My brother just got a, pull behind your tractor sprayer, with an electric pump and a 4' arm on each side that also folds down and gives you a total of 12' of spray width. I am going to wire his tractor up with a BETTER quick connect-disconnect electrical plug-in for it and do the same for mine.It has about a 40-50 gallon tank on it.
I need to get "weed and feed" on my front and rear lawn...but walking behind a "Scotts," spreader with a 24" wide application is beyond my ability to walk behind and do. IT...worked well enough for my small front and back yard in the city...but not here. He also has a 4' broadcast spreader for use as a tractor attachment...to spread weed killer and solid fertilizer... He says they both work just fine. He likes the liquid sprayer best because he is real nazi about how his yard looks....far beyond my needs or wants... and he mows and manicures 12 acres. The liquid spreader lets him do the whole shebang REALLY FAST.

I'm just about done with my second mowing of the 20. Dayum, some areas had the foxtails and June grass (cheat) WAY over a foot high, along with the mustartd that was in the two foot range.
Some of those areas I had to go Slow-slow to keep from bogging down the blades.. Only thing left are about six acres of light growth, in the less than fertile areas. Now my back lawn has in interesting effect going on. When the grandson was growing up I used to let him use the garden hose to eliminate dog turds. I was sitting outside, this morning, admiring my back lawn, and all the spots of real green with the grass higher than the rest of the lawn. Only one answer, dog turd fertilizer. |
