All the times I've been in Russia and Ukraine there were lots of people attending church. Once I got to watch Easter services at the church down the street from where I stay in Moscow. The police officers(guarding against Chechen attacks)at the service were crossing themselves, and filming the service. There were attendees of all ages, from buns in the oven, to Granny ladies who needed help walking.
Putin has authorized building and restoring churches across the country. Our news never reports this.
