Hey Pogo.......Tool question for you!
I have been looking on craigslist at tools...these 3 shapers are located close to me if i decide to purchase.........Do any of these machines stand out to you as ones i should avoid? or is there a particular one that you like best? The one machine comes with a power feed and the blue machine comes with a good variety of cutter heads.... I thought it would be best to check with you before i made a potential mistake because i dont know anything about these and i have never even used one of these before Any advise will be appreciated.

What brands are the green ones? I'd probably go for the Delta (gray one). You can readily get parts for them.
It depends on what brand those green ones are. It looks like the bottom green one has a power feeder on it. That's a plus. Myself, I wouldn't buy a machine if it's made in China.

That gray one looks like a Delta. They are good and easy to get replacement parts for.
Bormac is made in Taiwan. That's not too bad. A lot of modern machinery is made in Taiwan. Some of the newer Delta machines are made in Taiwan. Mine is made in USA. I don't know anything about the National machine. But it looks like it's a heavy duty piece of equipment. It might be a General (made in Canada). If so that is a good piece of equipment. I"d guess any of them would do you a good job. It would depend on the condition of the equipment and the price. Whatever you get, you will want to add a power feeder if it doesn't already have one. And... a big thing about quality work is the shaper cutters. Freeborn are the best period. |
