I guess a M-1 Garand belongs in here...
....it's old enough. This one was made in 1951. It's a H&R.

Again, is that stocked refinished, or is it a new stock? I don't honestly believe that it could look that good from where you bought it. It looks great!

That is a new stock made by Boyds. I've thought about scratching it up to make it look authentic, but I've decided against it. I bought the receiver from CMP http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm
And, I accumulated all new govt issue parts and built the rifle. It is a beautiful gun, a brand new government issue M-1 Garand. All original US govt parts except for the stock. If I could find a new US govt stock, I'd buy it. |

This place http://www.dougsstockpile.com/index.html used to have some new stocksets that were like the Boyds but were USGI specs. They werent thick like the Boyds. They do got some nice ones though, that are a little used but nice. I would keep the one thats on the gun though if I were you. What is the MW, and TE? It is a really nice M1

I never gauged the TE & MW. But as I said, everything including the gas cylinder, operating rod, and barrel were new and in the government sealed package when I bought the parts. The receiver was removed from an existing rifle at Anniston and I bought it from the CMP. It looks brand spanking new, although it had been on a issued gun.

That’s a beauty of an M1 pogo … I like many of the fellas mentioned wanted an M1 Garand for many years before I finally got one … I sure like the one I have and I’m sure the one you have is not for sale. There an excellent shooting rifle as well … I’ve always thought if I can see it with my old eyes I can hit it with my M1.

I bought a re-arsenaled one back about 1968. It looked almost as nice as the one I've got now. Well, I was young with a wife and two kids, and just a buck Sergeant. We had some unexpected expences, and I had to sell that M-1 to pay some bills. It broke my heart, but I had to do what I had to do.
I finally managed to build a like new one a few years ago. It will be with me for the rest of my days no matter what. A M-1 Garand is what I was issued in basic training. It was one manufactured by International Harvester. I'd give a wad of money if I could have that one now. |
