6.5x55
2 years ago i bought 3 rifles sight unseen to help out a client, everything legit, standup guy. he is a great guy but needed cash for dental work. 1 ishapore, 1 nagant carbine and 1 swedish mauser in a box. sold the first 2 to freinds to recoup some $ as it wasnt an investment anyway.
pulled the mauser from the box a couple weeks ago and this thing looks like new....WAY better than the best of my long guns...dated 1906. question is= this isnt my kinda thing, should i make it a mantle piece? should i burn the 400 rounds that came with it and sell it? what kinda price? you guys know the deal, i have no more room in the safe, have little interest, but i hate to just dump something this nice. ive always took these opportunities to burn up gravy ammo teaching newbies the basics but im working 7 days a week. i cant post pictures as girfriend wont give my camera back since i took pictures of her exiting the shower, been 3 1/2 years now....shee still brings it up from time to time |

That is a good round, in a Carcano carbine, it eliminated a Kennedy, years ago. If it's in that good a shape it's worth an auction. Don't sell it to to a dealer, only to a collector! |

6.5x52mm Carcano or 6.5x52mm Mannlicher-Carcano is an Italian military
6.5 X 55mm is the Swedish military round Here's mine:

I would have hung onto that Swedish Mauser. Very fine firearm.

If its a 94 Swedish unaltered I would like to be the first to bid? If its old ammo - Military be sure to clean it right away if you shoot it.

I'd keep it, but I'm biased 'cause I've got two, one in original configuration with straight bolt, and another sporter w scope/synthetic stock. Taken three deer and 1.2 wild hogs with mine! You'll fall in love with that round!!

6.5 x 55 Swedish with the Mauser is supposed to be one of the best round / rifles of the Mauser type.
If was me I'd hang onto it or make sure it found a loving home. I hear some tales of very accurate round for what it is worth. Then of course I meet some silly head that tells me that there never was a Mauser chambered for 6 x 55 rofl. I prefer o3's and 1917's and smle and M/ N then 98 mausers. In that order but that is one of the few I'd probably keep. Actually after I learned to love the 1917 enfield pattern in 30 06 I found a 95 Mauser known as a Pleasure Mauser (civilian hunting rifle based on the military one) that a fellow from South Africa, who now lives in Amerika USSA. had and bought it. Has octagonal barrel and in 7mm mauser (.276 Rigby). I really enjoy shooting it. Both cock on closing the bolt, and the 95 lacks the third safety lug of the 98, but I have no worries shooting it. |

just a note if you haven't fired it yet.
If it's in orignal military configuration, it will shoot 12 inches high at 100 yards, dead on at 300. Yup that's the lowest setting you can go with the iron sights. Says something about it's long range capability doesn't it? 6.5x55 is one of the GREAT cartridges of all time. Performance on game is way better than what you might think from just reading the ballistics tables. NJMHO, the view is shared by many! Regards, ... |
