Question Opera Browser

Anybody use Opera as their main internet browser? I am trying it as a replacement for Firefox. Opera doesn't seem as controllable or as secure as Firefox, though. Maybe I have a learning curve ahead.

I tried Opera a while back and didn't like it so I removed it.

I use Pale Moon when FF becomes unbearable with the memory usage.

Pale Moon is showing promise on the Linux set. Seems a lot lighter than Firefox, though it is based on FF.

Gooby Opera.

I use Opera almost exclusively. Tried Firefox and Opera both, early on, liked Opera better, though I'm not as fond of the current iteration of Opera and generally use an older version I have installed for most things, including .

I'm also currently trying out Vivaldi, a new browser built by the same guy who originally built Opera. Shows promise, but it's basically still in beta, so not all the bells and whistles of Opera or Firefox yet.

Use ad blockers, good antivirus and pick and choose which cookies you accept. I do that and get just about zero ads. With Linux I use an anti-virus, but it's deep in the background, but Linux is not attacked by or susceptible to many viruses, anyhow.

This new Opera just does what it wants and therefore sucks. There is still no other browser as controllable as FireFox, but with every new update and major version change, it's getting more and more clunky.

One reason Linux isn't vulnerable to many viruses or attacks is because of so few users. It's not worth the hacker's time. It's like Apple computers used to be. Now Apple computers are being hit by viruses and malware.

The best way to avoid getting your computer infected is to always run an anti-malware and have your computer behind a firewall.

Second, avoid websites known to be filled with malware such as porn and gambling websites.

Third, learn how to properly clean malware and viruses from your computer because eventually your computer will be attacked no matter what precautions you take.

All very good and valid points. I use ClamAV for my Linux distros, as it is very quiet and doesn't suck up a lot of resources. It also plays nice with everything I have tried, so far.

One thing I would add, watch what "free" software you download and install. Remember, "free" is a relative term, when it comes to software. A lot of it is loaded with adware and other nasty surprises.

People that surf porn and gambling sites deserve what they get. They've been told over and over what they're doing, but still have to surf them.

Absolutely, Pirate Bay is filled with trojans and viruses.
