Hard drive kaputt.
Had a power surge a while back, I just came to my computer and it says HD not there, I switched it with an old one I had put away and it worked, I already replaced the one in this computer I'm using now about two years ago. I have a Seagate 2 T coming from Amazon tomorrow. in the meantime I put the dead one in the freezer to see if I can extract some data.

No I ordered a regular one, I also ordered the control board for the drive itself, something was getting very hot on it and the disc was actually spinning all right so I figured for $12 it's worth a try, it did happen after a power surge so it has to be an electrical problem not mechanical, maybe I can recover everything in it, it takes a month to get here so I'll have to wait and set up the new one anyhow.

There is a small part a ROM chip that needs to be be swapped on the board with the original one that came with the drive but I have the tools to do it |
