Can't remember the fellas name has a company that restores just the 1897s. Their is over a years wait to purchase a restored shotgun. Some guys are against restoring some like it just a matter of choice I guess?
I have one from 1917 and they return them to factory new will all original parts. Interesting video damn those bayonets are longer than the damn gun. ADD: Ian? brought out an interesting point that only a small percentage of the 1897s had the 'flaming globe' inscribed on the weapons the majority did not have it that were used in WWI. posted a pict. of his up here with the globe.

He did a great vid. on how to bid on a weapon you like at their auction house. Can't find it right now but look at these racks of guns going to auction. HOLY SHEET. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI8K94lMHRE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI8K94lMHRE -Find what you are looking for take your time and study originality. -Set a fair price in your head low to high. Don't get stupid unless you really really want it hence taking you over its value. -Relax on your bidding don't let em see you sweat. I am going to win that WWI Trench gun. Enter only takes a minute. |

I had a repro 1897 riot gun made by Norinco. The buttstock was capped by a piece of molded plastic like the original. It kicked like a mule and wasn't much fun to shoot, at least from the shoulder. I sold it to a guy I knew and ended up making some money from the deal.
