Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default I got out my old Winchester "94"

I checked it out and cleaned it. I bought it new in 1973 at Sears and Roebucks.

I decided where I want to go on vacation this year. I'm going to go drive up through the Dakotas and Montana and go up into Saskatchewan. I'm going to drive up to Moose Jaw and maybe even further up. I plan on also stopping at Teddy Roosevelt National park in North Dakota and Ft Peck in Montana. I'm looking for old ghost towns and wild horses to take pictures of.

I'll probably do some tent camping in remote areas. I can't take a handgun into Canada. So I think I'll take my Winchester 30-30 lever action. I should be able to chase off any wolves or bears with that. I might even take my old Winchester 1897 pump shotgun with slugs in it. It might be more effective if a brown bear came calling.

I plan on going in July.

That'll be easier to get over the border than a handgun. You could get a handgun in, but it's a major pain in the posterior.

You can download the forms you need to fill out and have them ready when you get to the border, too.

I am looking at a trip up to the Arctic Circle on the Alaska highway in 2017, and plan on packing a shotgun.

Right.

I was reading the information and read that they usually don't approve a restricted firearm (handgun) for people traveling for vacation. If I was planning on using it for competition or reenactments, etc they will usually approve a Authorization to Transport.

I downloaded the Non-Resident Firearm Declaration form.

Dang, a trip to the artic circle will be quit a long one.

I suggest taking a gun which will not cause you much heartbreak if you lose it to customs. Regardless of the law, proper forms, etc. those customs guys can be fucks.

And make sure to fill out a firearms declaration for the U.S. side before you leave so that you can get the gun back in. They will have them at your local airport. At the Salt Lake Airport you go to customs, say you want to fill out a firearms declaration because you will be travelling internationally with a firearm, and fill out the form. Then some lazy-ass federal worker looks at your gun and checks on a computer to see if it is stolen. Then they stamp your form and hand it back to you.

When I have been to Canada with a gun, the customs guy always asks what I need a gun for. So I have to respond with a legit reason, like I am going grouse hunting. If you say for self defense then they will seize your gun because the official policy of Canada is that no one needs a gun for self defense because Canada has the RCMP.

Good friend here that owns property in Canada, several years back took his 30-30 with him, no problems getting to Canada with it. The problem was in returning to the states. He could not prove ownership of the weapon, not so sure that he did get to keep it upon return to the states. This was well before the situation we have currently security wise.

I think I bought mine in '74 from a local gun shop. Lovely guns aren't they? and accurate too.

Yes they are. And they aren't made anymore at the old Winchester factory.

Nah Pogo the old Winchester factory in New Haven, Conn. is long long gone. You got yourself a super nice keeper their hold onto it. I grew up in the shadows of the factory and our dads, uncles and neighbors worked their.
Every day they brought home pickem up trucks of discarded Win. wood stocks that Win. was tossing out and we burned them in our cellar wood stoves. Now those stocks are worth a damn fortune.
Winchester sold the brand name to God knows who now and the rest is history. Returning WWII vets retired in the 70s and took their craftsmanship with them.
Plus they went from hands on to mass production. You got a keeper their pass it on to your grandkids.

No, and soon after that they started using some plastic parts on the lever mechanism that was prone to break. I think they discontinued that very fast, or so I heard. I paid about $79 for mine.

Some of the later models didn't have walnut stocks. They were some other hardwood stained walnut color.

I only kept one short tube 30-30, had about a dozen other 94s.
Like a damned fool I let 'em all get away from me.

Had I kept all the pieces I brought from Nevada, I could have sold them at today's
prices and bought a bigger farm.
