I did a internet speed check last night and this morning, cause my internet was slow as hell or basicaly not working last night and yesturday here: http://www.speedtest.net/ My numbers are this: Download: 1.02Mb/s Upload: 0.39Mb/s Latency(ping) 28ms Says I have ISP verizon FIOS, I have a grade "F" slower than 94% of US Does anyone know what this means, upload, download, latency(ping)? Who knows How to decipher this crap Mine numbers look slow as chit, but it seems pretty fast when its working right I have Verizon/Frontier and Time/Warner advertises that there speed is 100 Mbps .

I have Comcast cable, my download speed is about 85Mbps upload about 33Mbps. You are very slow.
Numbers mean what they say, your upload, download speed. May need to call them and see if your router or cables need replacing maybe. I guess you have DSL and not cable in which case it is not so terribly bad.

Yeah it means they think you need to spend more money! And just who is the speed check company, your service provider in disguise?

Thanks Aviator. I am supposed to have DSL
I called Time/Warner twice and they actually talk english. She explained how to read the numbers. Im going to switch service. I had Verizon but now I get billed by Frontier(who ever they are)plus they raised the price A little cheaper and speed will be 50 mps instead of 1, plus free long distance land line calling. I dont even use my land line now because I just have local calling. I cant even call places in town across the lake. If I buy my one modem I can get $10 a month of the Bill, she said Is It a good Idea to buy your own modem? |

Check the fine print. If it says "up to 50 mps" it can be anything between zero and 50. No guarantee that it will actually be 50. Also it probably says the price is only good for 12 months or something like that. What is the price after the introductory period?

TWC is getting $70.69 a month for my 20mps/1mps internet service. My best speed is around 17/1.

Well, as I said, I have Comcast for internet, phone (the fax line) and digital HD TV Expanded Basic and On-Demand, everything is fast and good but I pay about $220 a month with taxes.

We are guaranteed 100mps and that's what we get with around 105mps being the norm. Your router will drop it down, too. You need to speed check before your router. That will be the actual numbers. Also, try three or four speed test sites and see if your numbers don't vary.

Well I also just renewed my 30 day McAfee security that came on my new PC.
Renewed with their offer for only $19.00 for 1 year, Regularly $90 something bucks Also called Forntier my phone internet service that Verizon changed to, to complain about my internet not working. After being on hold for 20 minutes I get some foreigner that was like talking to a 2 year old idiot that cant speak english. Hung up on him. Im going to call Time/Warner back and triple check what they are going to charge. Its the only other service I get here. They have Americans that speak English too |

I got a New Dell with the solid state hard-drive, 5i, 8 gb. Bought from Staples I had all the free security programs on my old PC. Avast, Superantispyware, etc I had to run manual scans all the time to clean it manually . Otherwise you have to pay money for their premium program to protect and scan auto Aviator, let me know what you are running for security. I figure $20 for piece of mind with the new PC aint bad |

My service is 100 mbs, but there are times that it goes way down.
My ISP is very popular in this area and gets loaded up at times. I deal with it. We also have the Frontier option, and here they suck. |

I had Avast free on my old PC. It didnt do anything unless you ran it manually and then was very good.
It was a temperary use also (like 1-3 months) then wanted you to pay money to keep it working for the premium service. So Id re down load the free every couple months I had Avast with super-anti-spyware. And everyday I had to manually scan with SAS and there was always 30-100+ "bugs" to delete. The Avast I had didnt block anything unless you payed for their premium service IIRC. Just my experience with it. All the free security I tried had a pay them deal for their premium service protection |
