I think I may have decided on a revolver
S & W Model 620, stainless, 7-shot .357 magnum goodness!
I especially like the shrouded ejector rod (and to me it looks cool to have the ejector rod shroud NOT go all the way to the muzzle). I also like how the locking slots on the cylinder are BETWEEN the chambers (i.e. at the thick part of the cylinder). Not that I would shoot hot reloads in it, but they say you shouldn't do so in a revolver where the locking slots are on the thin part of the cylinder. That may be an old wives' tale, but it sounds reasonable. The cylinder has to be really thin at that spot and might be more prone to let go. It's in my price range. I just gotta decide for sure and find a way to fit it in my budget. S & W Model 620. Any warnings? Thoughts? S & W still makes quality firearms, right? |

Yeah, that's a dandy. It may cost a tad more than some others, but will definitely hold it's value, and eventually increase in value. Are you going to use it for concealed carry?

I never really pursued the concealed carry thing much beyond the required class. I'm more interested in a "bedroom gun." So I may opt for a Remington 870 instead. |

That Taurus "The Judge" would be perfect for that.

Or .... you can get a Uberti "Millenium" plan jane in .45 Colt for under $300, have a lot of fun with it, uses it as a bedside gun, shoot tin cans and deer (and everything in between) with it, and have a generally good time for a reasonably small investment!
OTOH, if the Smith floats your boat, go for it. You won't be disappointed and you'll get a couple lifetimes of good service out of it. Regards, |

that does sound somewhat logical, but I think the position of the locking slots has more to do with whether you have an odd or even number of chambers than anything else, in an even numbered cylinder the chamber is at the top and there will be another chamber at the bottom in line with the pawl, in a seven shot the pawl will fall in between two chambers...
