Let's be tolerant here.
Enough is enough. If it's a brown bear? Sign it up for section 8 housing. A black bear? Housing and a Caddy. What would Barack do? |

Also used a round buckshot ball or two but damned if I recall at the moment. Ramblings from long ago. I still keep the bp rifles around. A Hawken style and a long rifle. They're just plain fun the grandkids love to shoot. Anything to get them into the shooting sports is a great thing. And the ole Marlin 25. |

The click sound from cocking an old BP firearm.
And the scent of the powder burning. Merica! |

Made my own powder also.
Being a retired printer I had access to the linotype lead. One of the things laying around is an old Crisco plate in reverse. I went into printing during the switch over. Lead was scrapped for pennies. Learning to read backwards required skill.... |

Ain't never counted Coup on a bear like 4th but I can attest to the fact that a 444 Marlin at 2 yards will stop a charging bear in its tracks. When he collapsed I reached out with the barrel and poked him to make sure he didn't need a second. Bullet entered the neck and severed the spinal column and broke both shoulders

You poked the bear??
Good choice with the 444 Marlin. Had one in 44 mag. Let the son borrow it and Dad's Winchester 94 30-30. These days I'm stuck with an AR in 7.62X39 and a SKS. The HORROR. |

The story would read "Bear Survives Getting Punched In The Schnozola By Pissed Off Resident" or something like that...

I use some kind of BP substitute in the 44 mag revolver just scoop it up and load.
You measure by volume. The volume works out like a medium charge of 2400. It is slightly compressed by the 300gr hard cast bullet. Oh yeah,it's Trail Boss powder. Good stuff. The scoop is a cut case for the volume amount. |
