So sorry to hear about your big family friend Boris.

Had to have our two Sheltie mixes pit down this year. The 16 yo just got to that point of being to stubborn to give up, even though she could do much being half blind, half deaf and bad arthritis. We knew it was time. Our other 10yo developed anemia that would not respond to treatments. All the vet visits only gave her another two months.
Sometimes it's hard to make the call, but we have to do it to spare them the suffering. Sorry to here about your big buddy there.

I am one lucky sumbitch. I've had quite a few dogs, and I've never had to make the decision to put them down. Either I came home from work and they were gone, or I woke up and they had passed.
Sir, I'm sorry for both you and your friend, and the decision you may have to make. Meet them at the Rainbow Bridge. cerberus |

I remember him as a very friendly, although massive, dog that was protective of the family.
There is a lot of good advice here. Mainly that he deserves to be pain free, even though it will hurt you and the family. It sucks to hear it, but don’t prolong his suffering unnecessarily. Loosing a dog, no matter the cause, is really tough. Tougher than one would think. Perhaps it is due to their unconditional love for us.

Sorry to hear about your big buddy. The below cartoon always makes me feel a little better when I think about the pups I've had...

Have you found a pup to replace him yet? If you have and its possible, they should meet while he can...a handsome fellow like him deserves the consideration. (Such things appear to be meaningful to dogs, at least I've found it so...they are far more sensitive than some folks realize.)
