The magic parts box is getting very close to spitting out another AR15 variant. A barrel and a stock are about all that's left. I've got a 20" with a heavy target barrel in .223 Wylde, a 12.5" in 5.56, and a 10.5" in 300 BO. Next build is probably going to be a 16", but I'm open to ideas about the chambering. 6mm ARC? 22 ARC? 223 Wylde? Other suggestions?
What should my next AR build be?

I have built several in .223 Wylde, it is a more accurate build than a standard .223 barrel. Give one a try.Last edited by FloridaAKM; 10-12-2024, 09:14 AM. -
Yea, I've got a heavy profile 20" Krieger barrel in 223 Wylde, head spaced off a JP Precision bolt. It's not something you would want to carry very far, but it makes beautiful patterns of holes in paper. This is 10 shots of 73 gr Berger OTM at 100 yds.

I've been on a "retro" kick after putting together an A2 clone. Next one will be an M16A1 clone like I had when I first joined the Army. About half way through my enlistment, we switched over to the A2s. I guess like your first piece tail, I have a soft spot for the A1 even though the A2 is a better rifle.👍 1Comment

my brother and i slapped together a couple 20" Wylde builds with Green Mountain barrels. nothing fancy, just Anderson uppers and lowers, Geissele triggers. fun rifles for paper punching. i still want a 9mm but i'm holding out for a Colt to go with my A2.Comment

Yup they were dang good reliable weapons after they got the initial powder problems straightened out. We all wanted those little 'AR commandoes' I guess they called them. Officers, FOs, those up the pecking order like Spec. Ops got those cool little ones we got the standard A1s I guess they were?
Just speaking for 'us' now we abused the hell out of them and they kept on ticking. Marine FO Lee my neighbor and good buddy 65' 66' experienced the initial early issue bad powder jams. They came in from a mission tossed them in a pile and demanded their M-14s be given back till they fixed the jamming.
They fixed it and a weapon the equal or better than the AK was the result.Comment

I built one as an XM-177 clone with 12.5 inch barrel and 4 inch moderator pinned and welded in place to avoid going the SBR government extortion route. Actually built two as I errored when making the first one. I had the moderator pinned and welded before realizing I didn't have the front sight gas block installed. Oops. With that one I added a clamped on Yankee Hill Machine gas block/front sight, freefloat handguard, and farbed out magpul stock/grip. Topped it with a fake trijicon acog.Last edited by Retvet; 11-04-2024, 09:45 AM.Comment
