    Feeling under the weather

I had a sick belly last night along with the squirts. As a kids get well was always poached eggs on toast. 7-UP was really only drank when sick or with Seagrams Seven. I pretty much cannot stomach 7-UP after throwing it up. I don’t buy bread for the most part, so toast if pretty much English Muffins. After all I do love Eggs Benedict. Tonight’s on the mend goes back to those roots. IMG_2138.jpg

Wife and I had a bit of a scare yesterday. I was grilling some pork steaks and decided to toss in some chicken sausages that were hiding in the back of the fridge. Food that's "hiding in the back of the fridge" is never a good thing.

Long story short. They tasted kinda funny, but seemed fine. Wife dug the wrapper out of the trash and saw that the sausages expired on January 12th!

So far, neither of us have suffered any ill effects. Two things that helped us: the meat was pre-cooked. When I grilled them, I left them on a long time and the heat apparently killed off any bugs.

We dodged a bullet. Won't make that mistake again.

That’s a suggested sell by date. Most processed meats are over processed and enough salt to take them past that date. That funky taste generally is just the fact that it’s chicken.

You're right about expiration dates, but I'd rather not take the chance, especially since it was about 2 week over due. My local grocery store often blows out meat that's past its due date. When I used to work retail, this would have gotten me fired, but hey.... out in the sticks I guess the rules are different. I've got no problem whatsoever grabbing a 1/2 price T-bone that's a day or two old. I'm not gonna take a chance with long-expired stuff though.

I have tuna that "expired" about 13 years ago, I have two left and I'm waiting for the expiry anniversary to have another can.
Working...
