Read 'Wired' by Woodward from the Water Gate incident if your interested in Belushi. He hired a retired SS agent to keep himself from purchasing drugs. He put the poor guy through hell.

A great talent who threw his life away on drugs and booze when he had the world by the tail. Hollywood and the music scene are full of stories like his. I guess when you're always surrounded by ass kissers and lackies and drug pushers the pull becomes too strong for many.

John Candy came from a short-lived family. So while he was known as the Canadian John Belushi he wasn’t drugged out and had a stable home life once he married. He worked obsessively until he fell over dead to set his kids up because he knew he wouldn’t live long. This video was mostly about the movies he was in.

Belushi mentioned just that. As he moved up the pecking order in Hollyweird he said it gets hard to tell your friends from those just wanting something. Plus as the necessities for more people helping you in business and your acting career the need for money becomes insane to pay everyone.
I guess from his take acting is a lot tougher than just standing in front of a camera and yapping. So taking the pressures off is just a step away with booze and drugs and it becomes an easy trap to fall into. Not all of them fall into the trap their are those we see not many that avoid the sick side of Hollyweird.

I worked with a guy in Vermont whose buddy owned a snowmaking equipment company. The company was hired to make snow in some Hollyweird movies. Well my bud from work ended up working for his friend with the 'special effects' guys on the sets. Down time John Candy on one of his jobs loved to play poker.
Not high stakes now but he said Mr. Candy took the gambling seriously. He also said he was one of the nicest guys one could meet.

Side note and holiday relevant. The movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles starring John Candy and Steve Martin filmed scenes at the El Rancho Motel on US HWY 41 in Gurnee IL. Its still there next to Fatmans Pub where I'll be picking up my deep fried turkey this Thursday.

Hollywood and the whole entertainment industry have always been full of drugs and people dying because of them. Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and the list goes back to the 1800's. Wikipedia has a list.

Finally the Dan Aykroyd bookend to the Blues Brothers duo. About 48 minutes in is the Blues Brothers discussion for Merc and the 1941 discussion for dinky. This guy talks slow and clearly enough you can put him on 2x speed and not miss anything.

Whenever I got drunk, my problems never went away, but the next day my problems were still there plus I had a hangover on top of it. Some folks never seem to figure that out, I reckon.

Booze and dope never solve a damn thing in life. Some seem to not fully understand that. Then....they die.

Oh well. Leaves more gas for my RVs.
