In summary:

Scouting and the Dept of War have a long cooperative history. Hegseth was planning to end this relationship due to Scouting's left-leaning stance. Instead: he decided to meet with the Scouting leaders face-to-face. Hegseth put Scouting on notice to make some changes within the next 6 months and MAYBE they'll keep it going.

Here are the changes Hegseth requires:

1. End all DEI to include transgender merit badge, transgender curriculum, and transgender enrollments.
2. Boys and girls will not share "intimate spaces" like tents and rest rooms.
3. Place God and religion back into the curriculum.
4. Add a military service merit badge.
5. Scouting will be free for all active duty soldiers' children
6. Consider making it a "boys only" organization in the future.
7. Comply with all Presidential DEI-ending directives.

My recent experience with Scouting:

In the Spring of 2025, I started helping out with a local youth group tied to my county sheriff's department. I liked it and am now an active volunteer. A couple months ago, I found out the organization was actually an off-shoot of Scouting. Just last month, I had to take some classes and I'm now an "approved" Scouting adult volunteer. In this capacity, I really have nothing to with Scouting and all my work is with the sheriff's department. The whole partnership with Scouting was just for liability purposes.

I think I accidentally stumbled into the organization at a good time. Perhaps I can make a difference.
