RTO. D Day WWII 4th I.D. on the wrong beach..

Coast Guard and U.S. Navy helmsman dropped the 4th Inf. 3,000 yds. south of their intended landing position. No problem Gen. Teddy Roosevelt Jr. looked at his maps and knew something was wrong. What to do wait for orders? Hell no 'We will start the war from right here.'
Their intended position was heavily defended this one was not so much. Gen Roosevelt probably saved a thousand lives with his decision to advance from right their. 👍

Ernest Hemingway acted as an embedded war correspondent with the U.S. 4th Infantry Division ("Ivy Leaguers") in 1944, notably accompanying the 22nd Infantry Regiment through France, the liberation of Paris, and the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. He befriended Col. Charles "Buck" Lanham, often acting as a combatant and scout.

Good read, thanks Tim. The 22nd of the 4th Inf went through hell, poor bastards.
I wonder how much about Hemingway is true. We do know that he was a coward in the end.

I have to do some research on that about Hemingway? Lot of stories of him staying with the 4th up to when they hit Paris. Not to many or any other than 'Cappa' were real anxious to go in with the 1st Big Red One on Omaha. So I guess the 4th was a better option?
Poor Cappa hit the beach first wave and took a sheet load of pictures. Got back to the ship and some young sailor screwed up 'accident' and destroyed while developing like almost all his picts. Poor kid was heartbroken he knew what hell it was getting them..
