    Very interesting I don't understand the need to make them 7.62 but hay whatever they wanted I guess?
    The need for Garands during WWII overtook the abilities of production. The essentially could not make them fast enough. So with tons of Springfield .303s available they simply converted them to 30/06 barrels production began. 1942 and 43 were the two years they were made.

    That is how the 03A3 came about. Wars end beautiful stocks were put on to make nice hunting rifles for the returning G.I.s ​
