The guy I bought my M16 from and I became good friends, he has an E4. He has a M60 D kit for it as well along with a big ass Trijicon Machine gun optic. If I was to ever lotto out the first purchase would be a M60E6 and a pallet of linked ammo. Not all transferable M60's are created equal, registered trunnion guns cannot be overhauled.

I had a new US Ord back-half installed on my Saco-Lowell serial numbered trunnion> Desert Ordnance did the work.

Add: The trunnion is marked GUN, MACHINE making it the first ones made by Saco.

M-60 E6. Shorter barrel lighter by several rounds. I see picts of the U.S. Navy SEALs from Nam with a shorter barrel M60.

Most guys preferred the M240B and the M249 SAW to the M60. The M60 was a good gun, but they liked the newer offerings better. The few times in my career I got to fire these, the one I liked the best was the SAW. It was fairly light, accurate and easy to shoot, even for a guy like me who rarely fired machineguns.

Unlike the other machineguns, the SAW was actually considered an individual weapon, not a crew served weapon. In Iraq, I'd see lots of guys lugging around SAWs, but never M240B's. The M249 was still a lot heavier than an M4, but still manageable. I remember sitting at a DFAC and talking to a very small female soldier who had been issued an SAW. They poked a lot of fun at her because the gun seemed almost bigger than her! Of course, she took it all in stride, and laughed it off.
