That was interesting as it was so close to the end of the war. But they had to keep hitting the Japs as they were not sure if they were going to invade Nip land.
Marine Lee my buddy at the end of our street here as an F.O. called in those 16 inchers from Naval ships offshore of Nam. The shells were coming directly over them which was not a great idea and he said it sounded like a whole house going over your head with train engines running full bore. They needed the rounds but it was not worth chancing a short round.
Later reconnaissance the 16 inch shells he said left a hole the size of an Olympic swimming pool. Holy sheeet.
