I passed right through there a week after it happened, on vacation. It is kind of trippy. While my wife and I were keeping an eye out for alligators, it was the black bears that are killing folks. The other irony is that I stopped at a gun store (Ammo King ā how could one drive past and not stop?) and on the shelf they had some Brenneke Bear Protection 12 gauge shotgun slugs that I bought just for the novelty. (Iām sure regular slugs would work just fine.)

I was all over your fine state - mostly trying to avoid tolls and traffic jams, but not very successful at that.
Wish I would have had time to drive down to Key West, though.

Fred is right every damn thing in Fla. has claws and big tooths or fangs and poison. Was this guy feeding the bears was the bear with cubs did he just walk up and surprise it or none of the above and it just attacked?? Their opening a bear season here in Sept. with 200 being allowed with permits. I personally don't hunt but you don't have to be Daniel Boone to find one.
Lots of food for them and their getting BIGGER and bigger and more and more of them here. Watched one out my front window a few nights ago eating out of my garbage he broke into and his back was just shy of the top of my trash can. So about 4 1/2 feet to his shoulders. One BIG one here will not run he just growls and keeps eating the rest run.

I do not venture into that area unless I carry a big gun on me and a machete. if it's not the gators, it's the 18 foot long snakes, poisonous frogs, rattlers, panthers, bears, komodo dragons, and coyotes will eat whatever is left of you, not even the indians live there anymore, now they all have big fancy homes paid by the casinos, oh and make sure you know how to grab a snapping turtle or you'll loose a few fingers. But the most dangerous one is the swamp skeeter, they are almost as big as helicopters, I swear to God and they will attack you relentlessly.Wilderness? If you read the comments on the videos, one was by someone who said the guy was a neighbor and the bear broke into his camper and dragged him out of his bed.Wilderness? Holy sheeet their is nothing their except wild animals and Injuns and I ain't kidden. š

I'm out in the woods a lot here in Michigan and I've only caught a split-second glimpse of a black bear. When I go solo camping, I'm always a little nervous but nothing's ever messed with me yet.
One thing I absolutely DO NOT do is go looking for trouble. There are people who like to chase black bears with dogs, tree them, and take photos. Not something I approve of.Comment

So a friend up the road here hits the head to pee opens the door when he is done exits and he is face to face with a big black bear at the end of the hallway. Whoops shut the door. Good thinking. š
Super smart gentle giants they have learned to open doors. One tried to stick his nose in my kitchen door. I have a gut feeling this old guy was feeding these bears and he missed a feeding?? Damn I have enough to think about I don't need to start worrying about black bears dragging me out of bed and eating me alive.
Maybe I will have Miss Becky move in here to protect me. I'll ask GARANDNUT for advice. šComment

The guy giving the airboat tour we took told us about the pythons and how they've devastated the ecosystem. Then he mentioned how Florida put a bounty on the snakes, but so many people were bringing them in, they were losing a lot more money than they thought they would. So, now you have to be a licensed snake hunter by the state in order to collect any bounties, which he said he was. He said he usually just drops the snakes off at a pizza place in Everglades City and the owner makes the skins into leather for wallets, purses, boots, etc..Comment

It is legal to carry a weapon out in the State and Nat. forests here Pogo.. I think?? the bounty on the pythons was around $25? Not worth the time and ammo to hunt and turn a few in. Plus their so well camouflaged you could be sitting next to one and not see it. You can bet guys are popping them when they go out in the wild country.
They should make it a $10,000 fine for the A holes letting their frigging exotic pets go out in the swamps.Comment
