I posted about these guns on the old board, so I figured I'd re-introduce them to the new board because....well, they're just awesome.
This is my Ruger Speed-Six (.357) and my Ruger Security-Six (.357).
In the early 1980s, my father became a U.S. Postal Inspector. His original issued sidearm was the Ruger Speed-Six. After completing the academy, he immediately bought his own Security-Six for his duty weapon. Why? Because it was prettier, probably. So his issued Speed-Six just sat in his desk drawer. In the late 80s, when the Postal Inspectors transitioned to semi-autos, they were given the opportunity to buy their issued revolvers for $25. My dad bought his and he bought another from a coworker who didn't want theirs'.
Fast forward to Christmas of 1997 when I was 21. For the best Christmas presents ever, my brother and I each received like-new condition Ruger Speed-Sixes. This was the first handgun I had ever owned (and still own it). Dad still held onto his Security-Six. A few years ago, when medical problems started coming down on my aging father (including Parkinsons) he set aside his Glock 26 and handed the rest of his guns over to my brother and I and said "Keep what you want, sell the rest. I don't need them." In that transaction, I acquired his Ruger Security-Six. These are awesome revolvers. I think I'm going to switch back to the Speed-Six for my edc weapon.
