What's left of the carcass is being left for the animals of my woods. We set the trail cam to see what was visiting the carcass. So far, a bobcat and some song birds have been eating the remains. It won't be long before the coyotes move in. That's fine by me. Unlike others, I see them as essential. I don't shoot or harass them. I leave them alone to clean up the forest floor.
Scored a deer on opening day!

I visited my cabin property a couple days ago. I was making a ton of noise, clearing downed trees and shoveling snow. It made no difference. Five deer ran right in front of me: 4 does and 1 buck. I could have taken one of the does, but chose not to take the shot because it wasn't a "for sure" clean kill at shotgun range.Comment

I decided to hunt my off-grid cabin property and will be staying here overnight. The snow is super crunchy so I can't sneak up to anything unless the deer is operating a jack hammer! 😉 Here's the view from my blind. What you see is an 1890's logging road that I cleared years ago. The deer like to cross at two points 30 and 100 meters away. Even if I don't score, I still enjoy the experience.
