    Another Home Depot score....

Working at Home Depot, I'm always keeping an eye on the clearance bays. A couple years ago, I scored a Rigid shop vac, that was originally $129, I got it for $33 on clearance. Just last week, there was a Husky 290-piece mechanic tool set (normally priced at $259) that went on clearance for $175. There were ten left in stock. I kept my eye on it. Just last night, I get to work and see that the inventory of ten, was now five because the price dropped to $124. So of course, I had to grab one for myself. I know, I know.....Husky tools aren't nearly as good as Snap-On or the like. But I'm not a professional mechanic (sadly) and I'm not spending hours in my garage restoring a hot rod. But for a decent set of tools to have around the house, I think this was a heck of a deal, especially for $124.

I inherited enough tools from relatives to be able to put together several kits, one of which is going to my "nephew"(actually my niece's half brother). My grandfather worked for GM 1937-1941, and had a ton of hi-dolla' GM supplied wrenches, sockets, etc. My dad was a long range bomber mechanic ( SAC 1951-55) and Uncle Stupid, dad's brother, left me a shit-ton.
You did make a good score.

I have quite a few Husky branded tools. Many of them are made in the USA, too.

Husky is pretty good brand, I've had a few things for a while and they keep on working.

I agree. Husky tools aren't bad, pretty decent actually. But, in online forums, whenever you bring up tools, it seems like there's always going to be that one tool snob that says if you don't take out a second mortgage on your house to buy Snap-On or Matco, that you just wasted your money.

My favorite tools are the ones that don't break (I'm looking at you, Harbor Freight). My tool box has at least one of something from every brand ever made in it. Nice thing about having so many tools is if one of the cheapies breaks, it gets thrown out into the field, never to bother me again.

Future archaeologists are going to love that field.

I thought the same thing last time I threw a broken ratchet out there.

If you're an "occasional mechanic" those tools will last far beyond your lifetime.

All of my mechanics tools were made in the 60's and 70's by SK-Wayne. They are pretty much indestructible and still look great after 50+ years of use by myself and my older brothers.

Hey I still have a lot of original Craftman hand tools the new ones ain't worth a dime. Remember when Sears used to put out a catalog just on tools? It was required toilet reading.

No matter how many of those tool sets I buy there is always one socket or wrench size that I need that is not in there.

I sure needed a 11mm ratchet wrench the other day. It was the only size I didn't have.
