I've become a "pickup truck guy".

For the past 30+ years I have driven Honda Accords. I wore out three of them; all manual transmissions. Great cars!

That said.... My life has changed. I'm retired and only drive about 5,000 miles a year. Suddenly, fuel economy really doesn't matter anymore. I sold my last Accord and bought a 2019 Dodge Ram, crew cab, with a 5.7 liter Hemi. I'm really enjoying the automatic transmission and the rumble of the V8. It's been a great "day trip" vehicle. Dogs have plenty of room in the back seat and there's tons of visibility. I live in the country on a dirt road, so a pickup is far more forgiving. Wife likes it too.

Believe it or not, this is the first automatic transmission vehicle I have ever owned. Even after about 700 miles, I still find myself reaching for the stick shift or the clutch pedal. Old habits die hard.

I got rid of mine. Since I can't do half the stuff I used to and the truck needed a couple thousand dollars in repairs I decided to get rid of it and keep my wife's minivan, I can still put materials in it if I have to it's much newer and in good shape, I got her a new Honda Pilot Black Edition for those three hour trips to the island, shit drives itself.
Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.

I purchased my first PU truck in Colorado in IIRC, 1971. It was a 1964 chevy 3/4ton, 4x4 with a fleetside bed. It had a 283 V8 and a 4 speed manual transmission. It was a beast.
About 1976 I had dropped in a 396/350hp engine. WOW! I sold it as part of a dicorce in 1978. Wish i still had it.
I have had a number of trucks since then. I cant imagine not having a 4x4 truck.

I've had a few 4x4 SUVs in my years. I spent a good deal of my life in MIchigan, while 4x4 is not a necessity there, its definitely a game changer in the winter. It wasn't until four years ago, at the age of 45, that I got my first 4x4 pickup. I've only used it for truck stuff a handful of times, but those times when I needed a truck, I'm glad I had one.

                I have driven trucks since 1987 when I got rid of my '73 Chevy Nova, since then I have a 1988 Toyota Hilu+ 4 by 4 & a 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4 by 4. Then there are (2) 1987 M35a2c troop carriers w/ 6 by 6 & a 1996 M1081 LMTV that is 4 by 4 drive.

At my age getting into the last 3 is a chore due to their height, but they are fun to drive. I think that makes a truck guy.

I was a mechanic in the USMC Reserves. Ever since then, my dream vehicle has been a M925. I envy you.

I've had this 1976 M880 since 1991, it's a firewood hauler. Keep them out of the salt, fix them up and they last for years. It's still road legal and my granddaughter calls it ( Pappy's Scary Truck ).
