Every military non CG thinks the CG is a cakewalk. D Day WWII CG and U.S. Navy hit the beaches driving landing craft. Delivered U.S. Marines into a lot of the Jap held islands. Vietnam early CG familiar with small water craft driving the rivers with Spec. Ops troops as they not the Navy were most familiar with them.
CG not for me as when their is a bad storm while others flee the CG goes into the storm. Infantry for me lots of trees to hide behind. 😀
"DID YOU KNOW that Eddie Albert put his burgeoning acting career on hold to enlist in the Coast Guard and then later accepted a commission in the Navy in order to see combat during WWII?"
" During the Battle of Tarawa, one of the most brutal of WWII, Albert was tasked with piloting a landing craft under heavy enemy fire to deliver Marines to the beach. After dropping off the troops, he witnessed the chaos and carnage as many were pinned down in the shallow waters from enemy fire. Disobeying direct orders, Albert took his craft back into the combat zone multiple times to rescue stranded and injured Marines. He is credited with saving 70 wounded servicemen, pulling them from the water and bringing them to safety, all while under relentleas enemy fire."
ADD: Eddie earned a Bronze Star with a Combat "V" for his heroism that day, though many believe it should be upgraded to a Medal of Honor.
