Miami elects first woman mayor, marking first win by Democrat in 28 years

Democrats can now add a major city in Donald Trump’s home state — and one set to host his future presidential library — to its list of off-cycle election wins.

In a Tuesday runoff, Miamians elected Eileen Higgins as mayor, the first woman in the city’s history to hold the job and the first Democrat in 28 years. Higgins, a former county commissioner, defeated Republican Emilio González, an ex-city manager who had the endorsement of Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis, with 60 percent of the vote.

“Miami chose a new direction,” Higgins said during her victory speech at the Miami Woman's Club. “You chose competence over chaos, results over excuses and a city government that finally works for you.”

There's always some fraud, but the Republicans have been doing jack shit with the majority and people are frustrated. No voter fraud reform, voter ID, anything. Trumps appointments aren't happening, Thune is blocking recess appointments by keeping the Senate in session.

Yup you guys are correct things are not rushing to get any better. Hell I have taken out 4 re-mortgages just to go shopping. But on the up side PT is improving our country getting the ILLEGALS the hell gone. Good number of improvements in our 2dn Amendment rights. Gas is holding its own price wise I guess when we factor in inflation its actually pretty dang good compared to the rest of the worlds prices. Hmm trying to think here?

I am outside city limits so I am not involved in this but City of Miami is among the most corrupt establishments as far as politics. We already have a democratic female mayor in the county and after a few years there is a recall underway. Here you either go with the flow or you go nowhere.

City of Miami has changed tremendously. late 60's and 70's it was all cuban migrants, working families and little crime. Now those families have moved west, to newer areas of the county which are unincorporated, others have gone north to Broward county or even to the west coast in the Ft Myers area, what's in the central area of Miami now is the south american crap and a couple of small black neighborhoods which are being pushed out by major condo and office building developers who want that waterfront view by the bay. Center Miami I hardly recognized it a couple years ago when I drove by trying to show my daughter where we once lived, which is still a nice area but too close to downtown. Demographics change over time. There are still a few old restaurants that have been there for about 60 years but the main core is all south american. City Hall is composed of a lot of power hungry republican cubans doing business on the side. She will not feel welcomed.

Just wish I could spend more time there. We fell in love with that place 46 years ago but had no money back then. We've been poor before.
