my daughter in law's cousin is a dog trainer, he gave my son a couple of Malinois, he had to give them back, those dogs are unstoppable they need a lot of room to burn their energy.

Don't feel too bad, I paid close to 30K in real estate taxes this year. and have already sent $25K to the IRS in advance so I don't get hit with a penalty at the end of the year. and have already paid about $40K, we have no deductions other than standard deduction, even if we paid for our daughter's Master Degree.

I know you have a place on Sanibel .
I'm sure the taxes there are huge .

Island is just about the most exotic location
I have ever been to in the United States .

I own two other houses besides Sanibel and my own, two of my kids live there, they are always late paying me the taxes even if they pay no rent...sucks.

My niece is up to 5 of them she uses for her Search and Rescue. Each one has a specialty - Trailing, cadaver, gun sniffing, searching, and something else, I forget. She runs them out on the ranch behind their place every day. Politics of the volunteer organization are about to force her out because her dogs are smarter than the leader's dogs and make them look bad. I don't know why she can't find a husband?

I do not recommend them for the average dog owner and here is why.

• High Intensity and Demand: Malinois possess high energy and require extensive physical and mental stimulation. ...
• Independent Spirit and Strong Drive: If you are looking for a cuddle buddy, the Malinois is not for you.

Belgian Malinois Origin and Why You Shouldn't Own One

The Malinois 'Herding Dog' has the energy of a hand grenade with the intelligence of damn near humans. Their is more info. on why John Q. homeowner family man should NOT get one than their is on info for obtaining one. Essentially their professional use only like Sanders Niece is doing.

I agree with your assessment of contemporary law enforcement. The job is dead. Anybody with the physical capability and mental scruples look elsewhere. Best wishes for your retirement plans.

I think it depends upon the location. Out here in the country, we have our share of crime, but nowhere near like large cities. The county sheriff is a personal friend of my wife and I. We both do a lot of volunteer work for the department as well. Not a month goes by that we don't get a text: "I realize it's kinda short notice, but can you swing by here in the next 30 minutes?" The deputies are almost all very friendly, personable guys and gals who love their jobs. They're all making a good living as well. If I had to do it all over again, I might look closer at a career in law enforcement rather than US Army.

There's a different dynamic out here with law enforcement at county level. The deputies have a very gentle touch in dealing with people. You can get away with that out here in the country. It might not work in the city.

Recent Example. During a "raid" on a rural trailer home, the subjects simply walked out of the place, admitted all guilt, consented to any searches, and apologized to deputies as they were cuffed. Everyone was on a first name basis. They all knew one another, almost like old friends. In return, the deputies let the guys make phone calls, gather belongings, and arrange for care of their dog. It was surreal. Again... I don't see this working in a big city.

I may go back to carrying my snubby instead of my full frame revolver. I'm sure .38spl +P will do everything I need it to do in a self defense situation. Do I really need full .357mag loads for that? With .357, I shoot the bad guy and five other people standing behind him.
