    I used to think I knew government waste

    This type of thing happens all over the place, and I used to think it was wasteful government type stuff that was causing our higher taxes.

    My office is attached to a large warehouse. The heating system for the office also feeds the 2 bathrooms in the warehouse. Probably something of an afterthought, because while there is an 8” duct pumping into the bathroom, there’s no cold air return.

    So during the winter months all day and all night the furnace pumps heat into the bathroom, but none of that heat recirculates into the system. In fact, because the air out is greater than the air in the office becomes a negative pressure zone, so it sucks cold air in through our 1970’s aluminum windows. This makes the furnace work harder, and the thermostat thinks it’s unreasonably cold, yet the shop bathroom is getting hot. By hot I mean even the liquid hand soap feels warm to the touch.

    Total waste of energy, and I used to see it as government mismanagement of tax dollars. Not any more.

    Between what DOGE found with USAID and what’s now coming to light with the Somali daycare stuff, I was looking at pennies while others were stealing billions. Our country will be bankrupt soon if we don’t start seeing a lot of people in jail.

      Why do you think Gold is so high? Our money is pretty useless.

        All I know is you can hear the air escaping from under the door. Yesterday I got bored and checked the temperature with a laser type heat gun.

        shop = 45F
        office = 68F
        shop bathroom = 85F

        That’s while we were on site. Give it some time to build up heat during the long weekend and it will be about 95 in there.

          There might be adjustable dampers, but if I start playing around with it I’ll get reminded that we have a facility crew for that and I shouldn’t be making unauthorized changes.

          It was 95F in the bathroom this morning, and the walls were 100F near the heating vent.
