Went to my CPA today, spent two hours there, liquidating the company, shutting down officially and I'm done.

Salespeople were moved to a friend of mine, she's pretty good and was one of my sales girls before becoming a broker herself, just a couple of them decided to go someplace else, everybody is happy. Now I need to get my wife to do the same, she retired 10 years ago and got called back into service..."I'll work until I'm 65".....Well, that's gone out the window.

Retirement...I'll be gone to the island place over the weekend, gardeners go every week but they don't cut down anything over 10 feet high and some of the coconut trees there are about 25 ft high, I have a very long professional pruner pole that my son gave me once, have to go to work. Over 100 banana trees, once they produce fruit they need to be chopped down, previous owner collected them. I hope my key lime tree is still alive, can't see it from the rear camera, We planted about fifty Florida native plants in the front garden, they seem to be doing well, Have a mango tree that's doing good also several red dragon fruit cacti bearing fruit already and a river on the back full of snakes, iguanas and catfish\ with visiting gators once in a while. Never turn your back to the water they say.

yeah, until the pump quits, my ejection fraction rate (how they measure how much blood heart pumps) is at 45, minimum is 50. I'm exercising and taking some meds that may help but I'm not doing well. However...gotta do what I got to do.

Congratulations on your retirement! I retired early about 5 years ago and my only regret is not doing it sooner.

I'm stuck home recovering from the flu, so have time to write. Fair warning.

I may have mentioned this before, but retirement didn't go the way I thought it would. I assumed I would spend every day just goofing off, hunting, fishing, and playing drums in one or more local rock bands. I got bored with being in a band and it wasn't fun anymore, so I left. I still love hunting and fishing, but not ALL THE TIME. I needed more. I need to WORK.

I started all sorts of construction projects on my property. It may take me 3-4 months to build a chicken coop, but I'm loving every minute of it. Same goes with some volunteer work. I work with a local youth group as well as the local sheriff's department. Wife and I are personal friends with the county sheriff, so whenever he needs something done, we're there. If a giant oak tree blocks one of my forest trails and needs to be cleaned up, I'm actually excited. Most people would find tasks like this unpleasant, but not me. In addition to goofing off... which I still do a lot of... I need some sort of purpose, some sort of goal, something I can look back at and marvel.

I'm healthy and fit but time is ticking. Without a doubt I will wake up one day and not be able to swing a chainsaw, climb a ladder or lift a 22" bass drum. When that day happens, I'll follow the example of one of my neighbors. He's an old guy with one eye and a long list of serious medical problems. The guy is ALWAYS busy doing things he can handle. He has invited me to go fishing with him this summer. The dude is amazingly skilled (or lucky) at fishing. I've gone with him before and I swear he can SMELL where the fish are. Never seen anyone like him.

Your island property is intriguing. If it were me, I'd make it a point to empty that water of all its catfish. That sounds like heaven on earth.

I predict that after a few months of goofing off, you'll want to get into some sort of low-impact work, possibly volunteer stuff, possibly using your skill set to help others. I don't know you personally, but that's the impression I get.
