Very quiet today

I guess some folks lost power? Baboon has been gone for a couple days, I hope he's all right, I heard Texas got hit really bad.

Garandnut is here, how bad is it your way? I know you got hit with a lot of snow.

It’s been rough for a lot of people. I was told by my mother several family members in Tennessee lost power. Pretty concerned for them but I’m sure my cousins are lending a hand.

The Weather Channel had NE Georgia right in the ice storm crosshairs. Most of it went just north of us. We lost power for 20 minutes yesterday. There's still some outages 10 miles north in the mountains. I've got a half year's worth of tuna and Spam to eat now.

We lost power for just a short time when it hit -25 degrees. I scrambled to get our back-ups running. In this case, the small powerbank gave us lights. For heat, we went with a portable propane heater. My gas generator wouldn't start in that kind of cold. We've been keeping our chickens warm with a small propane heater.

Lost power last week when it was exceedingly mild. I’m at the very end of a rural line. I think the recent repair shored up the line. The last time I lost power I called in for an update and was told my power was on by a woman doing her bad imitation of a know-it-all man like so many are wont to do. She looked at the board and gave me the shocking news my power was off. I was very glad to know it. They had to send the poor bastards probably the twenty miles back out up hill both ways through the metaphorical snow (it was lightning, not much rain).

When it went out last week it was 0345. Thank God a man was on duty who looked at his monitor and said, “It just now happened, didn’t it?” I called within two minutes only because someone else had the idiot idea to look and see if the neighbors were also out. Gagatha Christie seemed unaware that the topography precludes observation of the neighbors, the windmills and radio towers have their own sources and the two towns that can be seen have their own plants but women insist on verbal flatulence.

The power was back on within two and a half hours no food was rotted and if anyone else was effected the company is probably happy not having to hear a bunch of pissed off people at around six or so.

The worst was Sat. and Sun. by next Monday it will be back in the 40s. Don’t know why we’re getting off so light but I’ll take it and remember it over a turkey carcass in November.

One thing about living where I live (south of Portland, OR), the weather is pretty bland. What we would call "the storm of the century" most of you would call "Tuesday".

For us down here, houses (and people) are built for hot weather not cold so every time it drops below 40º we are freezing. We're going to get a few of those days on the second wave. There are some very old houses that were built with a fireplace but there is no use for that down here, really. You go north three, four hundred miles and yes, it gets cold. Gainesville FL, gets really cold and I've seen a bit of snow there.

90 miles south of Gainesville here Fred on the St. Johns river south end of the Ocala Nat. Forest. Thermometer just hit 28 degs. Got the water running slow so it doesn't freeze. My black cat Diablo is begging to go out. Colder it gets more he wants out cat ain't right in the head. Oddball the white cat says frig that she wants no part of that cold.

Its very cold here with around 18" of snow. Lots of deep snow drifts. I'm viewing winter through windows...so its just a bit confining. If I chose to go somewhere I have a very capable 4x4 truck. My next door neighbor has a large tracked snowblower and enjoys blowing out my driveway so that it is c!ear. Plenty of seasoned firewood stacked in garage. My home is well insulated so staying warm is no real challenge. Fuck winter..

28º where you are and by the river? that is crazy. The river keeps things warmer, it flows northward. Just wait until Saturday and Sunday then, They say about 35º down here.

We did not have significant snow or ice accumulation on the roads. The ice did collect on the trees which caused a branch to fall on a power line near my house, so I lost power for about four hours on Sunday. We were otherwise spared the worst of it.

I understand it was really bad in Nashville. In fact, it was so bad a Waffle House had to completely shut down in Murfreesboro TN (this is a town south of Nashville). If you know anything about Waffle House that is a huge deal. FEMA judges the severity of a natural disaster based on Waffle House's emergency level. I am being completely serious.

I've heard that before. I was up that way once and got up early to drive down, frosty morning but Waffle House had the best coffee at 3 am.
