Those were the days my friends

I'm one of the suckers who, as a teenager, scrimped and saved until I got the $20 to order the information on how to buy a Jeep still in the crate. Call it a life lesson - I got scammed.

I’m unaware of this scam. So for $20 they sent you instructions that basically said “Step 1, buy surplus jeep from government auction”?

Jeep in a Crate, 1941-1945 Willys MB or GPW Kit
Jeep in a Crate, 1941-1945 Willys MB or GPW Kit – The JeepsterMan

Willys Jeep Parts | Kaiser Willys Jeep Parts and Restoration

New 4 Cylinder Engine Bare Blocks, Parts & Kits - The JeepsterMan reproduction kits for 1941-1945 Willys MB/GPW Jeeps are available, with The JeepsterMan offering a "Jeep in a Crate" kit for around $16,730. These kits feature body and frame components, but they do not include the engine, transmission, or axles. Authentic, original WWII Jeeps in crates for sale are, however, a myth.

WWII and the Japs held the Philippine islands. America slipped tons of supplies in to forces their fighting the Nips. Jeeps and .45 pistols they fell in love with. So some Dr. their wanted to build up a WWII jeep. Trouble getting parts he said screw it and started his own company. Now everything is available including his 'REPO' jeeps in a crate.
The jeeps headed for Europe WWII were expected to last 6 months then toss them in the junk pile. Now 80 years later short of rusted away the damn things are running like they just came out of the factory. Guys like dinky put together beautiful jeeps. Don't buy the jeep in a crate their are real nice jeeps out their WWII repos and real WWII jeeps for around $20,000 + or-.

Soory bout the red can't make it go away..

I have no jeeps, but I do have a yard full of Deuces & a M1081 LMTV. Yes, they came from government auctions & run. A jeep would be great to use to run to the mail center & other short runs.

The MVPA I used to belong too, changed officials & became a place that the members didn't want to deal with anymore. Sad situation for all.

I'll settle for $10 Enfield rifles again... and $99 cases of 1000 round ammo

Geez I was just about to join them? Sad to hear.
O.K. I bought an old 1961 CJ5 someone started repoing it into a military jeep. Kind of a group thing here with the old vets that hang around everyone did something and I put $$ into it. Their dang close to the M38s off the assembly line with govt. demanded additions. Whatever its coming along well and were all having fun putting our two cents in. I guess that's what counts? Hell its better than crossword puzzles in the V.A. nursing home.
My buddy who I met at the Nam reunion is a 30 yr. retired Army helicopter repair tech. He has 5 fully restored jeeps 3 restored Humvees and a non flying M.A.S.H. helicopter. Beautiful huge barn and he is putting the finishing touches on it.
I will get the picts. up for all to see.

ADD: Andy working on my jeep brings all his rigs with the help of his neighbors to local charity events. Really draws the people in.

The MVPA in North central Florida was a lot of fun for years till the original guys that ran it quit due to disagreements & new officials. We had a big meet @ the Daytona Speedway, Toby Keith was the main entertainment with DeSantis as a speaker. Halfway thru it one of the new club officials demanded that I leave as they couldn't find where I had paid dues for that year. After a bit of disbelief on my part; I produced the receipt for the huge sum of $25.00 as proof that I did pay my dues & they left in a huff.

Later on, one of the old officials stopped me & let me know that they were keeping two sets of books for records. On top of that, they new officials were using club money to fund their meetings & whatever they wanted to buy.

That was enough for me & the guys I ran with. They sold all their trucks & gear & stopped going to any events.

I got an email that they want members to continue paying dues & going to the meetings..........screw that, I can spend my own money how I like & not have some clown tell me what to do with the trucks & stuff I bought, paid for & maintain.

Sorry to hear that. That seems to be the general consensus of a good percentage of the clubs and organizations. Our local VFW a retired military vet recently took over as commander and damn he was the Pres. Trump of getting things going. Seems everything he did $$ were flowing in.
He retired as commander after doing a kick ass job and now some redneck took over and I don't think the inbred can read or write. Idiot is destroying all the good commander did. Yup your club will come back around just have to give it some time..

FloridaAKM did you know Andy from Umatilla down here? He is the man working on my jeep and was heavy into your club? Not to bring up bad subjects sorry. He takes jeeps apart in his shop down to the frame and puts them together in about 3 days for something to do. 30 years retired U.S. Army taking Black Hawks to the frame and putting them together when they come in shot up and busted.
When he was retiring his commanding officer called him and told him he was going to have him arrested if he tried to retire. He is redoing my jeep for something to do and I just wanted it painted.

4thIDvet, No I am not familiar with Andy to my recollection. The members in the club were great guys & would go to great extents to help folks. I have no beef them, it is the people who are running the chapter that I have a problem with.

One of the guys I was in the club with called yesterday to let me know that the original folks that were running the club have put a different chapter together & wanted to know if I was interested. They were not as all their trucks & gear is gone.

There were a lot of great guys in the club, but times change.
