I watched a local station from Jalisco on the net, holy crap the cartel got mad, the government there killed a main boss and the shit hit the fan, Americans are being told to hunker down at their hotels on the beach, and many countries have cancelled flights to mehico.

"Destination weddings" are all the rage right now. In years past, you'd get married in your home town and invite a ton of friends. Nowadays, there's an expectation that guests should spend thousands in travel and lodging costs just to attend someone's 1-day event.

A good friend of mine got roped into attending his girlfriend's daughter's destination wedding somewhere in the Caribbean. I forget the island. In any event, it turned into an unmitigated disaster. In addition to flight delays, unfriendly 3rd world staff, cheesy hotel rooms, and lackluster food the girlfriend insisted on bringing her elderly mother who suffers from dementia. My buddy said it was beyond awful. They spent much of their time babysitting the girlfriend's mother and when it was all over, she barely even remembered the event. Nothing about the wedding was enjoyable. His greatest surprise was the hotel, venue and restaurant staff. He said you could see the hatred in their eyes.

A few years ago I was invited to a destination wedding about a 2-hour drive. That was reasonable, so I went. Another time, I was invited to a promotion ceremony of an Army lieutenant to captain in the DC area. It would have cost thousands. No thanks. It's kinda ridiculous. All my promotions were low-key events, mostly in parade fields, or motor pools.

Well my nephew just got married in the Florida Keys, a good two hours from me but we had to get a hotel down there, That's a dangerous road coming back in the middle of the night.

The Greek guy, bride's dad is a well known fishing captain in Isla Morada, and rented a complete ocean front hotel for the whole family, we rented next door though and the party was held at some large marina that has a venue for over 500 people and is water front, it was really nice though.

Bass Pro is what I remembered. I had a Penn Offshore reel repaired there.

My Nam buds house was right across the street from the shop next to the Hershey estate. He kept his flats boat docked behind the Bass Pro shop and we would walk across the road get in his boat and go fishing. I would fly down aviator is correct that road through the Key's scares the hell out of me.
