That's the way both my parents went. Cheap and efficient. I don't appreciate people gathering around, eating, drinking and telling jokes while I'm rotting away in a casket. Hell no.
Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.

You know the Michigan county I live in. It's one of the poorest in the state. When someone dies, the wake is normally held at the middle school gym. My buddy's was there. It was open casket. He looked terrible. I think of him every day but the funeral didn't help preserve his memory. Being in a middle school gym didn't help. Just the opposite.

I kinda like the idea of having a 100 or so friends and acquaintances attend a "party" on my dime. Free food, drinks and music. I think it would be kinda cool, even though I'm not there and 90% wouldn't give me the time of day when I was alive. I always thought a military graveside service was cool. I'd like that. I actually was OIC of my own father's military funeral.

I just turned 62 and am healthy. Dad died at 67, but I think I've got at least another 20 years to go. We'll see. In the meantime, I'm enjoying retirement. Most of what I do, most others wouldn't find fun. But I'm loving it. Wife is too.

Wife and I are considering a "crazy" idea. For our secondary beneficiary, we're considering giving EVERYTHING to a 40-something woman whose only job would be to care for our pets as we would for the rest of their lives. In return, she'd get about 2 million and change. She's the only person on planet Earth we trust to carry out our wishes. She has no idea what we're thinking, but might run it by her when the time is right. Again.... It sounds crazy, but we love our dogs like children. People who we used to laugh at years ago are now us!

Back on subject, I do love a good shot of Kentucky bourbon or similar. All the old standards are just fine with me. From Gentleman Jack (yeah, I know it's from my fav state of TN), Blantons and Woodford reserve. Can't stand it harsh. One that is cheap enough and tasty is Bowman Brothers, about $30. Oh well, that's from VA. But still good.
