Every year, around March 1, I look forward to seeing who is going to post about that fateful day. Its fun. But I don't know why it gets posted every year. Is there some connection or history regarding the Bunker and the Ides?Comment

It's a special day when we remember people who got frustrated enough to stab the Emperor, a lot. Of course, these days we are far too civilized to even consider jamming a rusty spike up Mitch McConnels ass, but back in the day some people got it done.👍 2Comment

The Bunker started around that time about 20 years ago and Jeff thought Pogo used the Ides of March as a code word to switch everybody. I'll never forget that telephone conversation, son of a bitch was crazy...."The Ides of March, tell me Fred, Tell me, was that the code word? ...." all this at around 10-11 PM on my phone. He lost the forum, I think his wife left him and he decided to turn himself off. Ernie was very polite about it, he was a good man but he never came with us. I miss some of those guys from way back.Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.👍 1Comment

I never heard how he "offed" himself. Do you know? I was friends with Custer. He died just a couple of years after we left. The Bunker started around that time about 20 years ago and Jeff thought Pogo used the Ides of March as a code word to switch everybody. Ahhhh...the gunco days. I recall that there was a faction within it that pissed and moaned about how the GD section was to big and had to be downsized or eliminated so that more discussion could be included about building AKs. I had several "discussions online with Jeff about, (according to him)" how basic training in the US Army was unnecessarily brutal and harsh to the new soldiers." This after a post I had made about my own BCT days at Ft Knox in 1968 and how the big green machine was attempting to "basically" train civilians to become soldiers so as to generally survive combat while weeding out those who just could not make the grade for various reasons.
I suspected that Jeff was a closet twinky and weak sister. He could not/did not want to, please his woman in bed and she split (according to what he said at the time via email.) He ended up splattering his brains all over a wall when he "ate" a pistol. IIRC.Last edited by dinkydow; 03-10-2026, 06:29 AM.Comment

yeah he did, wife left him and took the kids or something. I remember reading something about it. He wasn't right. Yes I remember you met Custer once when you were building a trailer and got steel from his company. He was a good man. I wonder if anyone saved those picture of the gatherings at Cephus place, DorGunR, Custer and a whole bunch of the old guys were there. David may have them.
edit:
just went across the isle and asked at Gunco if anyone had the pictures somewhere. Just went back to check and they blocked me off. WOW!
