My power JUST came back on after three days of freezing my ass off in the dark. Huge winds blew big trees down allover taking power lines etc., down all over Ohio. And it had JUST gotten fucking cold out. it was 40° in my house last night. All electric home. No heat no lights no hot food NO COFFEE. Now...its warming up. The coffee pot is filling and my two cats are both huddled on a heat register instead of me...trying to warm up. I'm going to have a Generac system installed. Fuck that no power shit. -
You don't have a generator? If not, you should get one. As for coffee, if you can boil water (even over your backyard grill), you can make coffee. I wish I knew that back in the 2003 blackout. I went through caffeine withdrawels with that one. It was brutal. I drove three hours for a cup of coffee. My power JUST came back on after three days of freezing my ass off in the dark. Oh shit man, that's no good. Get an empty can, punch a few holes on the side and put a bit of denatured alcohol on the bottom, set it on fire, use it to make coffee and warm food up. I did it during hurricane Andrew and brewed my coffee every day. Yeah it's been bad up north, it's been raining here all day long and it will continue for the week they say, temperatures will drop a bit. I guess the groundhog was right this year.My power JUST came back on after three days of freezing my ass off in the dark. The nasty weather passed through us with just a few minutes of heavy rain, rather uneventful. I hope the rest of you were just as fortunate.Comment

Yes sir, I’m on a dead end line and electric was out for 19 hours. Generator backup is essential. Although the grid system has gotten better electric still goes out once in awhile. Used to be if someone even said the word “thunderstorm” electric went out. Back when just my folks lived here we started out with a small portable generator. Over the years I/we have expanded the system to now including a small solar system. They power the refrigerator and the freezers and some lights and other things, so if I am not around, I don’t have to worry about things defrosting. About halfway through this interruption the inverter took a giant shit. I was “inconvenienced” by have to start the generator and throw a few switches. Two is one, and one is none, the third is the backup. Besides HOT COFFEE is necessary for life to exist. 😎
I’m already researching for the new inverter.
Gentlemen, be safe. Meat

It sure has been windy, and we have
gotten our fair share of rain…
I have just hunkered down and rode
it out. Thankfully I didn’t lose power.Comment

If you have to get a gas tank installed to run the Generac make sure you keep it full, my brother has one, it was half way full and a hurricane approached, he called the gas company and was told they were not going to make it..."But you don't understand, I have a Generac installed"...."Sir, you and about five thousand other people who called before you did".Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.😎 1Comment

We had 60 mph winds Saturday evening and night. I have a big bbq grill and the wind blew it over. Luckily it has several feet of slack in the gas hose or it wouled have snapped. I have natural gas for my grill and generator. We have met the enemy and he is us.

That's almost hurricane force winds. Florida will be getting some of that in a few hours, RTO, 4th our guy in Tampa, I forget names and I'll get some later big front moving across the country. My coconuts in the island place will be flying off the trees.Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.Comment

I went to G'ville early this morning for a CT scan and to see my gastro Doc to see if my cancer had returned. It hadn't.
Anyhow as we were leaving town the bad weather caught us. Hard rain, lightning and thunder. We stopped in Starke for lunch and waited until the storm passed. When we got home the power had been out and limbs down everywhere. So we did miss the storm here and the temperature is dropping. Going down to the mid 30s tonight.Comment
