24-1 horse won. The one I was calling for, Renegade, took second by a nose. Both came up from the back of the pack to win and place. Show was another longshot.

Fun to watch when the long shot wins. I don't gamble and I know squat about horse racing. I watched a documentary on getting a horse into the Derby. Holy sheeet $$$$..
Ocala Fl. here just up the road from me. Home to champion race horses. A few of the Derby winners were born here and ate the grass. That was it for those superstitious horse people. Eat the grass here when their real young then off to Kentucky or wherever. Those wins literally stopped development in Ocala and kept it with beautiful huge horse farms.
Huge fields of green with fences that cost more than I make in a lifetime. You can see the George Steinbrenner estate and horse farm from Rt. 75.. Old George's mansion is like a giant hotel.

I was at the island over the weekend and we went too a restaurant that also had a sports bar, and it was full of folks and the ladies with their fancy hats and stuff. Derby time! I'll say a lot of beer was served. Glad the restaurant section was separate.

I went to the Derby a couple of times back in the 70's when I was living upriver in Cincinnati. I was in the Infield with the other unwashed peasants. Basically a huge Drinkathon just like the Indy 500, but with horses instead of race cars.
