Trump champions bid to nix clock changes by adopting permanent daylight saving time

President Donald Trump is championing the prospect of putting the kibosh on twice-annual clock changes by making daylight saving time permanent.

A bill to make daylight saving time permanent has been folded into a larger measure that the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced in a 48-1 vote on Thursday.

"Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent!

Finally a POTUS that might actually do something about the time changes. Had Washington been paying attention to the DDB this would have been done over 20 years ago.

I remember as a little kid asking my Mom about daylight savings time. It was something she didn't understand either, but tried to explain as best she could. This is kinda how I remember the conversation going:

Me: Why are we changing the clocks?
Mom: So the farmers have one more hour of light to plant their crops.
Me: Changing the clocks makes the sun shine longer?
Mom: Yes. That's right. It will give all of us an extra hour of daylight.
Me: What happens if we don't change the clocks?
Mom: You would miss the school bus and be standing alone in pitch darkness while the rest of the world is bathed in warmth and light.

Democrats will oppose it because Trump wants it.

I like the idea, but I think there are more important issues President Trump needs to focus on.

I’m for picking one and sticking with it. Would have preferred Standard but this is a Christian country and therefore enamored with saving things.

Is he changing the parallels also? I mean, time is based on them starting at 00.00 hrs Grenwich time. Stop fucking with the Time.

Isn't GMT an international time standard?

IIRC GMT standardizes the minutes of every regular time zone. The people living in them decide what hour they say it is. Then there’s that time zone in Siberia that has the ones on its east and west bordering north of it. They gerrymander their borders to strand Russian majorities in adjacent republics, they might as well orphan their minutes too.

I retired early and proudly stopped wearing a watch for about 4 years. Frankly, it didn't work out the way I thought. There were so many things in my daily life that depended upon what time it was. I'm back to wearing a watch.

You need to live in an island......Island Time, the moment I cross the bridge watch comes off.

I'd love to live on an island, but it would have to be somewhere on the Great Lakes, none of that tropical weather.
