Trump is engaging in siege warfare. The Romans were masters of it and it cost fewer lives and treasure. I doubt it will work as it is almost impossible to lay siege to an entire nation but it was used effectively against imperial Japan in WWII. He is trying to create a pressure point to tip what is left of the government over the edge. He will also need a declaration of war to go much further which he will not get nor should he.

What makes sense to me is to trash their infrastructure, ports and oil facilities then maintain a permanent blockade. The short fall in oil will effect China and Europe which will force them to get their oil from us which is happening right now. If it gets bad enough he is hoping the nations that are most effected will step in which they wont nor can they.

The nuke weapon talk is a diversion. Even if Iran can get a nuke they will hold the middle east and the straight hostage until their oil is no longer needed or the Arab states go around Iran which they have been working on for some time. The movement toward nuclear and sourcing oil from less volatile nations will pick up the slack. The boomer fools days in Iran are numbered as their only export becomes irrelevant but it will take time. Also remember all the talking head "experts" in the media and on the interwed have no idea what he is planning or what is going on so they make it up.

Some years back one of the damn invasions into 'Iraq'? the U.S. Army 4th Inf. was massing in Turkey and was going to invade Iraq sweeping in from the north. The U.S. Marines and U.S. Army mech units were hitting from the south in a pincher movement.
Ready to go and at the last minute A hole Turkey said 'NO GO GET OUT' so the 4th had to board ships and cruise around to the south of Iraq essentially taking them out of the fight,. The U.S. had to do a drop of the 82nd A.B.... One pass and the whole division did not get in. The Kurds hooked up with them and they fought south to link up with friendlies.
The Kurds are good their 1000% anti Taliban. They can only fight when we supply them.
