Jury Duty today

Orientation done, now we sit around to see which 12 out of 58 will get to sit on a “multiple day trial”.

I have about 0.02% chance of making it on a jury. My personal hero is Pinoche’ because he threw commies out of a helicopter. I would advocate for the death penalty, but I don’t trust the Government with that kind of power. I think vigilante justice is closer to true justice than can be found in the courts.

Well, not sure how or why, but they picked me to be on the jury. I can't talk about it right now. Trial will last about a week. It's going to be Hell listening to the evidence and testimony. Already had to sit through a scared 11 yr old girl recount an event from 2 years ago.

Last time they called me two black kids had killed and robbed a couple. During jury selection their lawyer asked me if I could be impartial, No, they were caught with the gun and the jewelry they stole, to me it means they are guilty...guy cuts me off, next I know I get sent home and I later learned the kids were found not guilty.

Just because you're charged, doesn't mean you actually did the thing (it usually does, but not always). The last thing you want to do is fry an innocent man because what he was charged with disgusts you.

Well, that was special. Sexual assault on a minor under the age of 14 (she was 9). Sat through her testimony, mom, dad, uncle, aunt, DHS worker, child counselor, 2 videos of the victim recounting in detail the assaults, and the accused also testified (uncle’s wife’s father).

Was not pleasant. 1 out of 10 stars. Would not recommend.

We stayed until 6 to finish deliberations and render verdict. Guilty both counts.

What those who do not dwell in the sewer known as the Criminal Justice System do not know is sexual assault allegations, even against children, are many times fabricated for gain or to get even. Even very young children have made these allegations against,fathers, care givers, and those that work with children for revenge or because someone put them up to it. I have had fathers who are divorced accused of molestation by the ex-wife for giving his child a bath. It happens all the time.

When I worked in the county jail in Detroit, there was an inmate there awaiting trial. He was charged with molesting his own daughters. It came out in court that his ex-wife fabricated the whole thing so she could get sole custody of the daughters.

Not worried about getting the wrong call when we voted to convict on both counts. Not at all.

The victim - comes from a broken family, and is in a verbally abusive (possibly physically) family. She's isolated, with an older half brother who's only there half the time, a younger half brother who's only 5, home schooled, and in a generally bad situation. Perfect to be preyed upon.

The predator - No blood relation. He's the dad to the adoptive father's brother's wife. For financial circumstances the brother, his wife, their 2 yr old son, and the wife's father are living on the property. Since there's no room in the travel trailer "grandpa" is given a room in the house.

The grooming - Creepy grandpa, hereafter known as "Perv", starts giving special attention to the 9 yr old girl. Cooking her special meals, bringing her treats, giving her money when she does her chores. He invites her into his room to sit together and watch movies. He likes to sit close, since "it's a small couch". He likes to tickle. As it's winter he starts going into her bedroom, "tucking her in and covering her with extra blankets", "because it's cold and her room is farthest from the wood burning stove", and this part is important, he does it "on his way to work", usually about 3:30 to 4:00 am.

The events - Started with a hug, but one hand did a little rubbing on the front between the legs. She didn't know what to think of that, so she didn't initially say anything.

About a week later she gets into trouble, and the POS father scolds and yells at her for TWO OR THREE HOURS! *not making this up, it was verified by 4 different witness testimonies including the father's.

That night / early morning, around (per the Perv) 3:30 AM, he goes in to "tuck her in". She wakes up and says "Why are you here?" He tells her it's nothing, go back to sleep. Then, (per the girl) He puts his hands under the blankets and does some on skin rubbing, including spreading her legs open with his hands. She says she needs to go to the bathroom and locks herself in there until she thinks he's left. He's still there, but he just tucks her in again, brings her cat in, and tells her to go back to sleep.

- Defense actually called Perv's daughter. On the stand, during testimony, daughter reveals that Perv's brother, her uncle, raped her when she was 4.

- Defense called Perv to testify. Cross exam left me thinking "this guy is lying".

-- You testified that you would tuck her in because you were concerned she was cold. Why didn't you tuck in the other two children in the house?
A. "Because I didn't have access to them." (exact quote, I remember it clear as day)
-- Did the father tell you that you didn't need to tuck her in, that she liked her room that cold?
A. "Yes, but if I was cold then she would be cold."
-- Because her room was the farthest from the stove?
A. "Yes"
-- Didn't the father testify that each room has it's own electric heater and she was able to set the room to the temperature she wanted?
A. "Uh, I think so."
-- You said you would tuck her in on your way to work?
A. "Yes"
-- What time do you start work?
A. "About 5:am"
-- How long does it take you to get to work?
A. "About 20 minutes, sometimes 10 depending on conditions.
-- Wouldn't that mean that 3:30 is over an hour before you would leave for work?
A. "I like to get to work early."
-- Did you hug her?
A. "No, I never hugged her."
-- Wait, so you had, in your own words, a special relationship with her. You were comfortable sitting on the couch together alone in your room. You were comfortable tickling her. You would routinely go into her room to tuck her in. And you're saying you never hugged her?
A. "No, I would never hug her."

There was testimony from the child therapist, the DHS worker, the adoptive father, his twin brother, the mother. I honestly thought we would only need to deliberate for about 2 minutes, but leave it to some liberal woman who's "concerned that we might send someone to prison". Uh, yea lady. The alternative is we let a child predator free to do it again!

Fuck that guy. Hope he gets beaten and raped daily while he's in prison!
