Me and my oldest were helping my mother with a couple things last week and he managed to get a pretty nasty cut on his thumb ( 12 stitches).

On the way to get treated we got rear ended by an idiot not paying attention to the red light at an intersection. Fortunately it was a fender bender but will still cost us just under $1k to get fixed.

The guy that hit us didn’t have his insurance card of course but he did text me so I have his phone number. Mid week he says he doesn’t want to get insurance involved and haven’t heard anything since. I did get a picture of his plate though.

Normally I wouldn’t of let him go without the information or waiting for local PD but with how bad my son was bleeding and his complaints of his thumb feeling numb it was more important to get him treated.

Filed a police report and everything but I know we are going to end up with higher payments over this.

Still pissed.

Yes, you always get screwed when you get in an accident, no matter who's fault it is. Given the circumstances, you made the right call. Your son's bleeding thumb was the priority.

Your oldest's injury was more important than a fender bender. You did what was right. I wouldn't regret it for a minute. So what if you get screwed out of some money? You showed your oldest through your actions what was important (his injury) and what wasn't (some dents).

I'm proud to say that I'm sort of an expert in getting screwed over by civilian employers, salesmen, drunk drivers, and insurance companies. I'll spare you the gory details. In the end, the only advice I'll leave you is cut your losses, get over it and move on. Don't hold a grudge. Forget about it and move on to positive things.

I've cleaned up dog vomit, feces and urine at 3 AM. It's all part of being a dog owner. Dogs are part of the family and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty.

I was sitting in a parking lot, within a work zone, looking something up on the prints. A guy drove through the lot, was too busy looking at the backhoe, and drove right into me. Not hard, good squared up hit bumper to bumper.

My agency’s policy mandated a safety review to identify what safety policies or procedures I might have violated. I started mocking the safety committee right in front of their faces.

“What policies do we have documented for how to sit in a closed parking lot with the engine off?”

“Can you show me the proper procedures for watching someone drive right into your parked car?”

You handled this situation beautifully. Instead of getting angry, you calmly needled the safety committee with their own words, their own language and their own corporate doublespeak. These people don't know how to react to someone who speaks their language and knows their rules. You definitely set them back on their heels. I guarantee they weren't prepared for that sort of response. They were hoping for emotion. You provided reason, logic and calm.

My brother had a similar incident at his employer and handled it like you did. In a nutshell, he got mouthy with a female manager from an all-female department. His employer was expecting an angry response. Instead; they encountered a guy who knew the company policies better than they did, and leveraged this knowledge in a clever counterattack.

He complained that the female manager's department "lacked diversity" as required by company policy. As a veteran he said he "felt threatened and singled out" by this department that was not compliant with corporate policy. His most vicious attack was the way he referred to the female manager. Instead of addressing her by name, he addressed her as "the person identifying as a leader." This last point was definitely not a corporate policy, but sounded so smooth. In the end, he won big.
