The recent shooting in Idaho at the In-n-Out burger joint has me rethinking my everyday carry weapon. Every time something like this pops off, I have the same concerns. But if this could happen in Idaho, it could happen anywhere, even in my "safe" little town (just a few miles from Memphis). I currently carry a small J-frame S&W. I'm not one to engage the shooter unless I have no other option. My plan in that situation is to get out. However, these incidents seem to be more and more common (muslim invader, tranny shooter, deranged leftist, etc). So I am considering switching from my .38 S&W snubby to my .357 Ruger Speed Six. My S&W snubby hides pretty well, but my Ruger prints pretty hard. Living in Tennessee, I shouldn't really care if someone notices a gun-shaped bulge on my hip. I'd really like to implement a truck gun into all this, I just can't figure out a way to make it happen. Hell, I'm just spitballing here. What's everyone else's thoughts on the current uptick on leftist shootings?

Like you, I carry a .38 snub nosed revolver most of the time. Shootings like this have me thinking if I need to up my game a little bit but I'll probably just stick with my .38.
To complicate matters, about 2 years ago I became a reserve deputy. As a retired Army officer, I took to it like fish in water. It's not at all like I thought. No fights. No screaming. No shooting. It's all about influencing real and potential bad actors; something I'm actually quite good at. Before I retired from the Army, I was a civil affairs officer, so a lot of that training and experience directly correlated to LEO training.
In this capacity, I don't need a giant firearm. All I need is my voice, my mannerisms and my brain. If I do need a firearm and I'm in uniform, my Glock 45 is a great weapon. If I'm in civilian clothes, my .38 is plenty accurate and reliable. No problem or hesitation there. -
Yea, my Seecamp 32 auto is going to be worthless in a mass shooter scenario, but it’s always with me. As a smart man once said, the best carry gun for you is the one you’ll carry at all times.
I also keep a G17 with 2 extra mags in my truck. At least I have that if I’m in a drive thru.Comment

Mine is a light weight Colt New Agent .45 acp.. It will reach out their with some good accuracy in the right hands not my old blind and arthritic self shooting it. Snake just my .02 now but you should try to carry one that will be comfortable first then will cover up close reach out a bit for distance and you must practice with it MUST.
Keep dropping a dry mag and inserting a fresh one over and over and over till you can do it blindfolded. I keep hearing about this sight or that one being the best. When your adrenaline is flowing and the pucker factor sets in? Will someone please post they have been in a serious shooting situation and actually used their sights?
Military taught us way back when to "Point and shoot". It works great if you practice it. Using your sights? Yes if the situation permits and the threat is in your favor.

I’ve been reconsidering carrying lately.
I don’t get enough range time with all my other responsibilities and that makes me very hesitant to carry.
But more and more I’m feeling the need to carry. Fortunately I run all my errands alone and the family stays home for the most part.
Of course after this shooting my son wants to open carry which is legal in our state if your 18.Comment

My summer carry is a Glock 19
My more clothing weapon is a
Glock 21 / .45ACP or Colt Mark4 / .45ACP
My S&W .38 snub is my back up
I just got a Model 629 / .44mag / 3 inch
to tuck in my waist band .
I came on with a .38 revolver in 1990 .
I've had a Model 29 for 35 years ,
but it is a 8 3/8 barrel . More for hunting .
The new 3 inch will be my daily carry

Ukulele case has foam fitted for a Polish underfolder AK and a few extra mags. Wearing Hawaiian shirts adds to the camo.
Got a pistol IWB or shoulder holster, depending on the season. That'll do in a pinch out to 50 yards. Haven't been practicing out to 200 as much as I used to, though.

If I go outside my neighborhood I take my XDs-3 with a spare mag. It's accurate enough to poke someone's eye out.Sometimes I wish I had a Harry Potter's wand and make people go up into smoke.Comment

Since I’m in an open carry state it’s a Glock 22 always under a shirt with zero concern about print. I watch my carry side and six like an eighty pound inmate in the shower since I can’t run and have a ridiculously short stride anyway. I’m taking the cocksucker with me and fully expect hero Fife to magdump on me for my trouble.
On truck guns I’ve gone all in on semiautos. I’ve got a friend ten years younger and fully mobile who’s gone whacky over lever actions. Lot of pistol caliber and two .45-70s in case he gets in a shootout with the New Jersey or Wisconsin. Lever actions will stand out more in pawn shops if stolen so recovery chances are better, Pookie be holdin’ onto his purloined AR or AK. Fife will be less hurrumphy over a mare’s leg than a tricked out AR with an arm brace. Why I always have one chambered. Israeli carry will get you killed. Since I don't own a Sig P320, I don't have to worry about it going off.
A third man, Austin James, a former police officer, also ran to confront the shooter. Although Mr. James was armed, he initially — and intentionally — did not draw his weapon, he said. He had feared being confused for the gunman. When Mr. James rounded a corner, he encountered Mr. Williams, who shot him in the upper arm, shattering his bone and severing an artery.
“He didn’t say or do anything,” Mr. James said in a text message from the hospital, where he has been since the shooting. “Just had a blank stare on his face.”
Once wounded, Mr. James said he drew his gun and tried to fire, but his gun was without a round in the chamber.
