You must not like your house very much.

The one thing you can count on is if you are unlucky enough to find yourself in the middle of a mass shooting you will not be prepared for it. The amount of training that our military receive to deal with combat is not obtainable for the average citizen and that level of vigilance is impossible to maintain and they are not always prepared when the time comes. You will first freeze then, depending on your personality, run away, stay frozen, or, a very few, react. The killer always has the upper hand because he is prepared to act and knows it is going to happen, you do not.

I know I’m not ready mentally or proficiently. Best I could hope for currently is being a distraction so if my family is with me they can run.

The Army Infantry instilled the bad habit in me of running toward the sound of gunfire. Bastards. They also taught me how to charge and fight through an ambush, not run away from one. Again, the bastards. A couple times my shop had drive-bys near it. While everyone was diving for cover, I was looking for the source, prepared to engage if need be. Very bad habit to pick up. I have this inherent fear of being shot in the back - probably genetic or something. This is why the shooting at Ft. Hood by that muzzie officer pissed me off so much - someone should have been able to engage him. The capable personnel were there, but they were de-fanged, so to speak.

Couple years ago I gifted a new S&W 629,.44 magnum to myself for Christmas. It has ...i think...a near 8" barrel. It is very satisfying to shoot. Been thinking about a Desert Eagle in .50/.44. I used to consider "hand cannons" as not practical for defense....but now..
they are just a fun power trip to shoot, IMHO.

I finally got to shoot my son-in-law's .357 mag Desert Eagle. I loaded up some rounds that were even too hot for my Ruger GP100, but the Deagle ate them like candy and asked for more. That rascal is so heavy, and gas operated, that it prefers hot ammo. Fun fact: The .357 Mag Desert Eagle is a .44 Mag scaled to take the .357 Mag cartridge.
