Because decades ago the woke liberals spotted a key position that was largely being ignored. They got jobs in the HR department. Human Resources doesn't seem like it's got a lot of power, but it does. They screen applications and resume's, and with that they are able to weed out the conservative farm boy from a rural community and fill the managers stack of job applicants with nothing but people who listed their pronouns. The HR Department can't control who the manager hires, but they can directly effect the pool from which the manager selects.

THAT....would also be my question for the heads of the USSS and the DHS. Why is it so hard for many to cope with the idea that our country's government is riddled with NAZIs, communist/stalinist/marxists, BLM, ANTIFA, and radical Islamic jihadis who are anti-American and oppose their revolution being threatened by us, We the People of the United States of America.

I'm not sure how security clearance investigations are handled in the SS, but in the US Army it's a long, burdensome process. Depending upon the clearance level, they interview lots of people, even people you barely knew. Once cleared, you have to maintain the clearance and get re-investigated periodically. If there's any significant change in your life (arrest, win the lottery, divorce, mental illness, etc...) you have to come clean right away.

My advice to people wanting a clearance was always the same: "be 100% honest." Many people with some minor skeletons in the closet are approved. The only thing that will immediately disqualify you is being dishonest. Just about everything else can get a waiver. If they find any sort of deceit, you're done. That's it. You'll never get a clearance and will likely be removed from the Service, or at least re-assigned to a job nobody wants that doesn't require one.

As a nerd, I never had any brushes with the law. I thought that some of the shady guys in former bands would have been a problem, but they weren't. The only thing that gave them cause for concern during my re-investigations was having a foreign born (West German) wife.

I imagine this SS agent lied on his clearance interviews and didn't fully disclose all the left wing activities he was involved in. Given this and the unwanted media attention, I'm betting he will be terminated if he hasn't already been.

I recall a questionnaire that was several pages of fine print that were answered by marking YES or NO boxes, upon entering active duty in the US Army in 1967. I was somewhat surprised to NOT see the Boy Scouts listed as a subversive organization in those pages. My Dad told me, years later, that the FBI was out talking to most all of our neighbors about me, and told that it "Was just routine," for my clearance.

Now..I expect that supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States of America....is considered treasonous thought crime. I recall that being in an oath a long time ago. Secret clearances are taken seriously. Got a call from some guy when I had my shop....I need to talk to you at 6pm tonight. Guy shows up, state department ID, I asked him to sit at my office, and he goes "We know you worked with this guy in the past, I have a few questions for you" Well, they already knew the answers but they asked me the questions anyhow, a lot of questions, professional and personal.
