Sorry to hear that you've gotten it. I got vaxed about a dozen years ago but since you posted I searched shingles and found out that my vax may not be sufficient. I need to contact my doc at the VA about it.

Here's an article if anyone is interested about the old vax vs the new.:

Get the definitive guide on the Shingles vaccine: required doses, eligibility criteria, protection timeline, and what to expect after vaccination.

My mom tells me I'll probably have shingles when I get older. When I was a toddler, I had chicken pox REALLY bad. Apparently, they're related...?

Yep, same virus. Once chicken pox has run its course the virus lays dormant for decades in the nerves along you spine. Several things can trigger it, stress, weakened immune included.
Having it now, I know I should have gotten vaxxed against it.
I just figured most of here are older and came up before the chicken pox vaccine and have the bug in our system

I am done with shots no more that's it bye. I recently got a pneumonia shot updated and that is as close as I will get to shots. 1968 basic training in a long line to get our required 'shots'. Big frigging needle gun extended air hose with blood caked on the frigging injection point. NEXT wham no wiping off the frigging injector nada to busy hundreds of guys in line.
Whatever the guys in front of you had? you got. Now half the Nam vets come here to my cave have hepatitis. No shots.

I remember my mother had it and she was in bad shape for a couple weeks, so I got my vaccine a few years ago, I've been telling my wife to get it but she won't listen.

                Sorry you're going through it.

Needles you say? My daughter practiced installing IV's..... in my arms. She's not too bad for a nurse.

Thanks for the reminder. I did get my shingles vaccine years ago. I checked and discovered that once you've vaccinated for shingles, you're good for life.

I checked my vaccine records and I got the Zostavax shingles vaccine back in 2014. I'm going to get the Shingrix vaccines anyhow just for peace of mind.

Shingrix is 95% effective, it's a two shot deal, I got them at Walgreens, right in the neighborhood. I wish my wife would pay attention to me, she will learn the hard way.

You can not believe the device they used on in my recent hospital stay. A screened instrument about the size of your phone. Want to find a vein any vein. Held over your skin your veins show up on the opposite side of this thing. I am talking as clear as though you peeled your skin back. Like an X ray for veins. What the hay will they have next no more guessing where your veins are.

                            WHAT? That's good news!
i get lab work done at the VA and Quest and neither have used a device like that. I'm a hard stick so sometimes it takes 4 or 5 attempts to find a vein and I walk out of the lab with bandages on my inside elbows and wrists getting WTF looks from people sitting waiting their turn.

I've seen it, yes. incredible. I'm easy to get a needle in. My daughter says some of her patients she needs to call a phlebotomist and she is really good at it too. Last time I was in a hospital with an infection the little green nurse butchered me until I told her to get somebody else, this long hair weird black kid showed up and first attempt it was in.
