For years i had a SOF subscription. Then...for some years all I read were textbooks. I had fantasy's about recreational reading and my sub to SOF lapsed. Then, making a living and running my business left little time for rec-reading. I recall that the offices of SOF magazine were in Boulder Colorado...a hotbed of communist liberalism and insanity. I still find that amazing.
I dont know if it is true but I read somewhere that the main reason the magazine was started was as a recruiting platform for the Rhodesian bush war.
i think Afghanistan also wasn't it was going on fighting the Ruskies? Moscow was grabbing men from their satellite countries to fight. Our AK kits we got and built were being used like crazy.. Where was Merc he would have been in heaven.
I used to read SOF back in the late 70's. I thought it was a pretty good news source for what was going on around the world, especially in conflict areas like Rhodesia. That country got hung out to dry by the West, as did South Africa.
